The VN was, correct, the engines were the same as the Buick V6s (the 3800, unless you got a V8, which was the now infamous 304, or the mighty 5.0 litre (5000i) ). The later VS Commodores had the Ecotec (basically a 3800 with different heads and other shit I believe), or you got a Series II VS with an optional Supercharged Ecotec (also known as the L67, which is actually similar to the supercharged V6 in the Wendover).

The L67 was also featured in the VT VX Calais and S Pack models, and the VY S Pack, but were only available with an auto gearbox. People generally thrash the cars, then remove the motor and hook it up to a manual box in a VY Ute or VS Ute/Sedan and build a budget entry skid car that’s P plate legal (basically a car with decent power that can be driven on the provisional license we start out with, which restricts the cars and powerful cars we can drive).
