Then again, people think that Range Rovers are cool because all of the celebrities drive them. Low-end SUVs are not as fashionable. People would still prefer a Camaro over an Equinox, IMO.

SUVs sell stateside because Americans adore big cars.

SUVs have the edge of being both cool and practical.

    They're not cool.
    They're just practical.

Most have a cargo area that is hampered by a sloping roofline, and have leather seats and alcantara roofliners that makes you deathly afraid to put logs into....

And hauling logs are what SUVs are for.

Most SUVs nowadays have been given the name "Chelsea tractors".. They're so big, they consume massive amounts of fuel, they're ugly and their purpose is to tackle bad road conditions while still being practical and 'sports'
Except none of their owners bring them anywhere past a wet road with leaves on it.
I will admit, I like SUVs because they're big and stuff.
But they're not at all what their popularity portrays them

The same way 6-cylinder Mustangs, 4-cylinder Capris or Celicas were - social norms.

Then who buys all this stuff?

I remind you we also include crossover SUVs.

People who see adverts with active, adventurous families riding SUVs into Terra Incognita and think that if they buy one, they will be as active, their life as much fun and daily school-workplace-mall commute will turn into an adventure-filled off-the-beaten-path trip.

The same way buying a Charger instead of a Coronet didn't make your commute Talladega 500.

Well, that's true if you bought it for looks only.

The new Blazer should be built on at least the Silverado frame/body.

It could be a 2-door Tahoe.

Sadly, Chevrolet already made their decision to make it a crossover.

Though I'm sure you can modify a modern Tahoe to be a 3-door SUV.

Who would buy it with the 4-door around?

I know what they look like, what I meant to say was they could have been a 2-door Tahoe.
I know they wouldn't be very popular. I was just using that as an example of what they could have done differently.
