Hmm, you've got very weird car insurance laws in America, I wonder in what way they will call this car wreck, Super-Mega-Total-Loss?
That car looks like it was just about wrapped around a poll o.o I'd call it written off in my opinion.
hmmmm, thanks for that pic, now im going to have to try to replicate that once the demo or game comes out, XD, lol
Insurance has gotten back to us with the Total Loss price, and it is so far under the bluebook value we've opted to look into alternative methods. We are currently looking into a garage to see how much they'd charge us. We'll be keeping the truck no matter which we we look at it. They are trying to rip us off, I guess. Total loss. Probably up to 90%.
In norway the insurance companies can be a pain in the ass too.. But at least here we can argue against them and win a cause if we got enough facts to straighten them up. I got my car stolen when I was in England studying, and they wanted to only pay for the damages the thieves did when they stole the car. The car was found and sat in a lot with a broken dor, so snow and water had fucked up all the insides of the car. So I of course got pissed and flew back to Norway just to speak to them personally, with pictures and with what everything would cost to fix up the car and so forth. They ended up paying me retail price for the same car. 60,000kr for a Ford Fiesta.
My dad recently crashed his MK1 Ford Focus. He was fiddling with the radio or heating, which meant he didn't see the car had stopped in front. Was only doing about 15 MPH, but the car was written off because it was damaged quite bad structurely.
I'd say that car is ****ed. The chassis is gone on the right side and it's probably twisted too, fixing that will just break it, if not, it will be too weak. The cables/leads/etc must all be broken, repairing those will cost a lot because of the time, so pretty much not worth even touching the car.
Just thought I'd update this for those of you asking questions about insurance; Apparently the adjusters were trying to low ball us and screw us over, luckily we are still paying off on the vehicle and the lean holder decided to take it upon himself to contact the insurance company. After quite a negotiations, the supervisor agreed to look into the case and found that it was in fact a very low price. From a total of 1,500 for a '98 Ranger in almost new condition up to over 3,000. We've opted to let them take the vehicle and will be getting in a bigger truck.. Right as soon as we repair my race car.. I managed to hit the wall, XD.
Re: Developers: Challenge you! I'm impressed. The damage looks remarkably similar to Fortsc's crash, particularly the way the grille curved inward and the hood bent upward.
Interesting thread, thanks to the author of this! At least your accident got you this. :/ If you're going to be brutally honest the comparison isn't quite there yet. But, having this said I don't think it's the game or simulation to blame! I think it is just plain details, factors in play. Different cars, less parts on the in-game models, less geometry, some features lacking (like cracking, other material simulations?), objects collision and so on. It just needs work. The soft body physics are amasing! I see great potential in this, and it is all real time! That makes for a realistic and dynamic game. If you compare it to the big games from big developers BeamNG's soft body simulations are much better. You don't have this in Codemasters games, and they bragged a lot about the damage models. My point with this is, this shows how good the soft body simulations is. When it doesn't look as realistic, it's because of other factors.
