I started a little star rover project in Blender some time ago (yes, from scratch). Canopy, hood and landinggears are already rigged (mechanically functional). Maybe I manage it sometime to bring it into BeamNG as a fast (below 500km/h) and STOL/VTOL capable rocket propulsed glider. Steering could be similar to the Sea Harrier or more sophisticated like the F-35 (here with LUA based auto leveling and stuff (studied the skyride mod a bit ;=)). The Gatling rotary guns are a total anachronism but somehow a must for a lone shooting star hunter, imo . For now it's only looking nice. Let's see what will be realizable for me. But - I know - one thing at a time... LOL

There's no reason why it couldn't be in the repo at some point . It's basically a new design. But I'm working on the Homerange map most of the time and some other great ideas. So this is on hold for now. What I've shown here are of course Blender renderings and the bridge to BeamNG is still to be built. So, this could all take a while. When I've made a bit more progress, I'll let you know.
Not looking to put any pressure on you here—you'll do what you have time for—but I've experimented with creating asteroid-type objects and tiny planets for BeamNG before (with spherical gravity), so it's extremely possible to create a small solar system for this thing to zip around.

Would be a match made in heaven! The tech side is, that I will try to make this thing handle static, axis gravity first. My approach will be to (try to) take off from earth with fixed downwards gravity. I think it will be a great challange to write control software, that handles spherical gravity, too. Wow! The thing (if plans go right) will have four different fly modes: VTOL with static gravity (allways Z oriented). Flying just like a plane with static gravity, Flying without gravity by vectoring & rotating (similar to the ancient asteroids game, but 3D) Parallel manouvering without gravity (docking/landing in autaspace ). These are my future visions for this project. The good thing is, BeamNG delivers very good sensor data for this application but on the other hand I do not know how they react on non axis gravity - LOL. Well, I haven't written a single line of code till yet . My first small step will be to place the glider ingame as a prop. Then we'll see further...
