Perhaps for active rear wheel steer, but the passive stuff moves on its own based upon the car's angle in the turns. However, maybe it could be done by putting the rear wheels on their own nodes with limiting beams surrounding them.

Or maybe the SBR4 has active rear wheel steering. That actually sounds like something a Japanese car of this calibre might actually have at some point.

Oh, wow. Ive never heard of rear steering being passive before. That sounds like problems waiting to happen. Im gonna have to look into how that works without being unstable.

I think the new Jag XF also has it in its new "integral link" rear suspension set up.

If i get how it works then i think it could be implemented in the way that is shown in the diagram below.

    Passive rear steering.png

The force of car bit is the direction that the cars momentum is pulling in. Traction shows the direction that traction is acting in. Due to that design it would cause the rear wheels to turn slightly when put under force passively.

In game you would probably put the springy beam at the top wheel node but i am not sure how many people use that extra node on "non steering" wheels due to suspension design. I think the difficulty is that you may struggle to stop that from twisting in game especially if the vehicle delivers power to the rear wheels. So it may be possible if a bit of time is put into adjusting the values.

Im pretty sure that slide nodes would probably help quite a lot here (and fix the above issue) but i do not fully understand how they are implemented so didn't use them.

Would love to see some axles and some fender flares on the SBR4.

Cars with "passive" rear steering do it through a combination of what is normally called bump steer or roll steer. This is done through suspension geometry and bushing compliance. If you look at the Covet, a while back I instituted this system in the back, using a slidenode at the front trailing arm pivot along with a "toe" arm ahead of the pivot (much like the car the Covet is inspired by). The mesh doesn't look the part at the moment but the physics is there. Nearly all multilink suspensions cause have some form of roll steer. Personally I dislike it, it is less predictable when exceeding the limit, and it can tend to create wheelhop/shudder IRL as well as in Beam.

Active. It really shouldn't be that hard to code. At least nothing they can't do. If it's something for the SBR4 is for Gabster to decide.

I really don't get this "passive" steering thing you're talking about. Normal suspension works passivly (act upon forces), the kind of steering I'm talking about does not. The reason for this is it needs to be turning independent from the front steering, as factors like speed, turning radius, grip, oversteer/understeer etc. affect how much it needs to turn. And of course it will not turn many degrees compared to the front wheels. I'd also like if it could be disabled.

It seems reasonable that cheaper models would not have this.

    I know. It was annoying.

And the one image working was the most unrelevant one, making it all look silly.

I hear you, I really do. But the thing is, it would be kinda cool, and it would be appropriate for such a vehicle to have this. They are trying to make the cars relevant to real world cars, and making a modern day super car without details like this is arguably not so relevant to the real world situation. Cars of today are filled with techs and tweaks.

A lot of cars do have it, more than I thought actually, after looking it up.

I want to note that this is just constructive critisism from my side, I'm pumped for the release of this either way. I gotta admit this is the car I've been looking most forward to. That and 200BX (because rear wheel drive, duh')

It'd probably be the supercharger for the moonhawk, seeing as it has a supercharged engine available but no actual super charger modeled.
