We're thrilled to witness the incredible passion within our community. Your enthusiasm, persistence, and support motivate us to continue to work diligently on Career Mode!

Great points @Formula24 thank you for sharing!

The sentiment of nobody forcing you to play one way or another is exactly the goal here. The current implementation is not a design goal or final implementation at all, it was simply the result of making a handful of gameplay challenges with new systems and keeping them functioning as we developed other systems. The ability to choose your own vehicle or use a provided one is barely functioning across the game at the moment, but that is not an intentional design element at all, it's the result of an incredibly complex chain of events and us being able to make something work well-enough at the end of the day while we develop other systems further.

When it comes to difficulty settings, this is something I have touched on quite a few times on now: BeamNG.drive is inherently difficult already as it is, we can not and will not fudge the physics to offset this difficulty, it has and always will continue to provide the hardcore driving experience that it does, curbs = very bad. Offsetting rewards to make things more difficult is also a cheap trick, we will not follow in the footsteps of other games and simply provide you with less and less rewards to simply offer "higher difficulty" in progression. However, systems like persistent damage after a race, extra costs associated with insurance rates, or delays for repairs, etc and much more, these are the intended difficulty modifiers, and they're extremely useful for our game.

Regarding licensing and training, this is also on the horizon and we have some very in-depth and exciting avenues to go down here. Can anyone say, "EVOC" training courses/graduation?

In terms of buying vehicle shells, adding parts, barn finds, and other technical aspects, we must balance gameplay with technical limitations. Map size and RAM usage are crucial factors, and we want to ensure that Career Mode remains accessible to all players, regardless of their system specifications. We're working within these constraints to provide the best possible experience!

We're still in the early stages, and it's essential to understand that modded vehicles will require adjustments by their respective authors to seamlessly integrate into Career Mode. If these authors have set prices for their mods, that's precisely how they'll appear. Please note that our team won't be altering any mod files to make them compatible with Career Mode. Your understanding and collaboration with mod creators will be key in ensuring a smooth experience!

Well, I mean, the prices do make sense considering that they are luxury SUVs. I wasn't complaining.

I'm sure that you were addressing someone else with the physics part, and yeah. People shouldn't be afraid of "casualisation" in this department because the physics engine doesn't really allow for it. Besides, BeamNG isn't BeamNG without this difficulty and detail, and the developers obviously are aware that it's the game/engine's big selling point.
I'm not sure if I consider reward offsetting a "cheap trick". People have very different levels of what they consider a reasonable amount of grind, and this definitely will apply to this mode as well. For example, some will want to really earn every little upgrade and can derive a lot of satisfaction from investing time and effort into getting them. Others will not have the time or the desire to spend so much time, and just want to play around with customisation, or build the perfect car for a given task without having to grind out every component. Price/reward scaling is a big blunt instrument of course, and there's perhaps a more elegant solution for this.

As long as the courses are fun!
Again, people's idea of fun varies a lot. Someone was for example asking for speed cameras and fines in freeroam, and I totally understand why someone would want that. I surely wouldn't want them though, I've had enough of them IRL already :p

To clarify, I mean there won't be any sort of, "Choose your difficulty, NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, EXPERT" with each one only offering different money/xp rewards as the difference. That's the dirty trick that I am referring to above! You won't find any gimmicky difficulty settings here.

Our goal is to provide you with a genuine challenge that enhances your gameplay experience, with parallel gameplay that offers accessibility to those who need or prefer it. One of those, "Just wait and see!" situations.

Also, when it comes to features like EVOC training and red light cameras, rest assured when the time comes, they'll be integrated seamlessly into the gameplay to complement the experience, not hinder it! (I used to have a collection of red light tickets when I lived in Edmonton, it's basically how they fund the city we believed)

I'll take your advice and just wait) But I'll ask one last question, is the career mode planned to be more like entertainment mode or as realistic as possible? What direction is the game going in right now? Is it a maximally believable car simulator? Or a fun arcade game with very tricked out physics?

You're certainly persistent, and I love it!

Let's be clear: our aim isn't to mimic Car Mechanic Simulator or create yet another run-of-the-mill arcade driving game. We're taking the finest aspects of BeamNG and weaving them into a dynamic, progression-focused open-world.

You are asking what direction the design is going right now: in Career Mode, there's no conventional "I beat BeamNG!" finale. Instead, we're crafting a dynamic open-world driving journey that empowers players to forge their own path. There will be some minor hand-holding as you start off to ensure you understand how the game world works, but then you'll be on your own, ready and able to go as far as you want with it. We're all about immersing you in an authentic world of systems and experiences while letting you freely explore the gameplay that resonates with you specifically. To explain it in even simpler terms: imagine free-roam but with an economy and persistence among other complimentary gameplay systems.

It's crucial to recognize that driving interests vary widely, just check the forums and other socials to see how many people play the game in their own unique way, we want Career Mode to celebrate this, not detract from it. We must acknowledge the diversity of driving interests within the community and emphasize the intention to cater to a wide range of player preferences.

Some folks are passionate about racing, others revel in the nuances of car mechanics. Some gravitate towards off-roading, some crave police action, and others seek out specialized adventures like rock-crawling or even managing buses and taxis. If you're a fan of realistic vehicle physics and lifelike driving behavior in a game, rest assured, Career Mode plans to deliver these aspects and more without alienating complete groups within our dedicated community. :)

Thank you @Pr9tkin for questioning the plans and trying to clarify if they'll result in a campaign befitting of BeamNG and it's community! As I keep alluding to; it's very important to remember that we're still in the very early stages of development, we haven't been able to show you everything yet as it's still under heavy development. My best advice is to be patient and give us the opportunity to amaze you as we continue to progress with our intended plans!

The career mode plans are quite interesting. I think one thing that's quite sad is that yes, you can't use your own car and there's not really any progression that means anything. You can do all the things in freeroam that you can do in career and most players who know the game will just want to copy their freeroam custom configs over and build their dream car and whatnot + you have to do so many missions to earn money you have little time or money to develop your car.

Also, I'll quickly touch upon the different player types and wanting to satisfy them. It's ridiculous. First, casual gamers would not be the right audience for the career mode. That's what freeroam is for. Picking a car, doing some stuff, having fun experimenting, crashing, driving. A career mode for casual players wouldn't accomplish anything, because that's what freeroam is for. you can do all the random stuff you wish. I think it would make much more sense if you delivered on hardcore things, because that's what the dedicated BeamNG audience is, they're hardcore. Then if we want to satisfy all the categories, like racing, off road, crawling, drifting, transport, towing, you'd basically have to create the perfect game to do that and it's impossible. It will take another 3 decades.

either way, the main thing that's lacking is progression which I'm sure the devs are working on. You need something that drives you to play career and you can't make the perfect racing game, towing game, off roading game and GTA clone all in one game, even though all audiences want a perfect game.

It figures. Teenagers spend the entire 1990s, 2000s, and early 2010s torturing most of them to death, then the Radwood hipster crowd swoops in and starts pushing the prices up right when used car prices are going insane anyway. Suddenly the one that just randomly slipped through the cracks and barely got driven for some reason is now a five-figure "classic". At least, that's my in-universe explanation.

Hey! Don't post much as of late but I still try to support y'alls work, love it by the way!

Little bug I just experienced: Can't access dealerships with a waypoint setup. Specifically the starter Quarryside Auto with a waypoint to the Service station next door. Don't know if it was just something on my end but I noticed it just now

    Cheers!

Sounds like you've got a very good approach to all this, nice. It's also cool to see this degree of communication.

    Also:
"Why did you blast through that intersection at 120?"
    "I was merely donating, officer."

    Hey All!

I'm intrigued to know about the dealership and private car sales.

I am constantly seeing some vehicles and never seeing others

Anywhere in the game files I can blast through to find out :)

    -Thanks

I heard somewhere that this is based on the „Population” thing or whatever it’s called, in the info file of specific configurations.
    --- Post updated ---
Yeah, selecting waypoints makes it unable to interact with anything, and even lets you steal vehicles that you selected for inspection in the dealership (although you don’t actually own them, it’s just you can drive them)

Bit confused as to what you mean with the logfiles, would you mind clarifying?

    - Start the game and go to the career screen
    - Profiles don't show
    - close the game
    - attach the "beamng.log" file shown in the post from kwai38 (you can navigate to your userfolder using the launcher)

additionally, put the folder "/settings/cloud/saves" in a zip and attach it too. that way, if something is wrong with your savefile, we have a way to reproduce the issue :)

I know this might be a lot to ask, but can you guys implement a feature where you get to choose the map you want to do career mode in? I don't have the best computer, and nor do some of the other members in this community.
However, my FPS is better on Utah and I would like it to be able to play on Utah while still experiencing career mode. It would probably be a lot of work, but I think it might be a good idea.

Hey so I been testing the career mode & it’s AMAZING… of course it’s not finished & I know that but I do have 1 HUGE SUGGESTIONS…

DEVS should look at BEAMLRs. Especially their traffic system & how they choose the amount of trucks & police to spawn into regular traffic…
