Early Experimental Preview of Career Concept

    Hey yall, new to the forums. just wondering if anyone else has run into a bug with deliveries. I'm running a T-series with a 42ft tanker and have had liquid cargo showing up in the parcel cargo. It let's me pick it up and load it, but when I try to deliver it I get a fatal Lua error and a bunch of controls and menus stop working. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

    I wouldn't have hit this if the collision box wasn't so messed up!

    Hey there!

    Thanks for bringing these issues up; they seem like bugs that could really disrupt the experience. Let me address them:

    1. Money Runner Mission Issue:
      The challenge ending automatically when you stop on the green area definitely feels like unintended behavior. Previously, having to evade the cops added a lot of excitement to the mission. It might be worth checking if this is linked to a recent update or patch. Hopefully, the devs take note and fix it soon—I'd suggest reporting it officially if you haven’t already.

    2. Mission Stars Display Bug:
      I’ve noticed this issue too, and it’s been around for a while. It’s frustrating when the stars show as completed in the menu but don’t match the actual mission progress. It seems like a UI bug that’s affecting all missions, not just Career Mode. A fix for this would definitely be appreciated—it’s confusing when you’re trying to track your progress accurately.
    It’d be great if the devs could address these in the next update. Let’s hope they’re aware and working on a patch.

    I've played this since 2016 - Only just cracked into Career mode over the Christmas break, I love the future potential, starting out broke with a junker and working your way up is quite satisfying. There are a few issues I feel are really holding it back though, firstly the cargo rates - I'm not sure why they're so low, is it a performance thing? Even at max reputation I get nowhere near filling up a T Series box truck at all the Industrial areas and the Ports, I've resorted to editing the configs myself so I can load up a truck properly, this really makes even the MD Series box truck a bit pointless to buy in the current game as you'll never fill it up unless you tweak the numbers.

    The A.I - I feel like a few updates ago it was pretty solid, however the bridge to Spearleaf is a ramp to insanity, the best money making is transporting anything out to Spearleaf however a good 40% of the time you're likely to end up in a crash. I tend to drive carefully as I do enjoy the roleplaying part of delivering, but it seems all of Belasco is going for DUI records. The primary issue at the moment is that when the A.I has any accident, it switches off any of its previous driving behaviour, gets into the middle of the road (straddling two lanes) and stops, often causing more accidents in the process and blocking up the bridge.

    I understand the bulk of crashes are from the A.I spawning in while the other A.I smashes into it which is likely quite hard to solve, but in the meantime can the post-crash behaviour be tweaked? i.e Make any vehicle in an accident pull to the right when possible and park up? And also make the A.I not involved in a crash stay in its lane and simply brake then navigate the accident after? Even if just one lane remains jammed up it would relieve a lot of frustration from a blocked up bridge.

    I'm looking forward to more career mode updates, its given me an extra 100+ hours in Beam NG even with over 500 hours into it just messing around.

    I'm still getting the issue where if i restart a mission with damage to my own vehicle, it stays damaged, and it's been an issue for a few updates now

    Happy New Year everyone, apologies for being quiet, myself and the team have been been hard at work on various things and somehow it's already almost 2/3 of the way through January, time really does fly when you're having fun! ;)

    Apologies for this being around for a while! It was fixed shortly after the Christmas release and should be in the next update on the usual schedule.

    Just to clarify though, the persistent damage was related to the radiator smoking though right? :)


    Glad to hear it! These plans and more are certainly in motion with the gameplay, we're in the middle of prototyping some of it right now and it seems positive so far! Thanks for sharing :)

    I haven't really noticed a radiator issue quite yet, but it happens when a part of the powertrain gets damaged (eg. broken axle) and slows the car down
    Also, when I quit and the mission, the part stays damaged, but when I go back in to the mission, there's no option to repair the car, which means I have to reload the save every time I crash my car :(

    Great news, I just got word, "Okay, should be fixed now. It was only happening when restarting the mission from the esc menu, but not when restarting from the recover prompt" and I want to verify that you are experiencing this persistent damage when restarting from the escape menu and not from the recovery prompt, thanks! :) (it won't be fixed on your end yet unfortunately, not until the next patch is released)

    Regarding the "no option to repair the car" that is there on our tests? Is it possible you don't have enough repair vouchers, or money?

    Yes, that's correct

    It's when I restart from the esc menu, then exit and try to go back into the mission
    There's no prompt or anything, it just lets me back into the mission with the damaged car

    That's fine, as long as there's a simple workaround :)

    As someone who's experienced this since the dawn of the career, I think the game doesn't see the powertrain parts as deformed J-beam so it doesn't fix it. Just like if you were to blow up your engine, it costs nothing to repair it. You just go to "purchase parts" or painting and it fixes the engine. Another example, if you were to break an axle during a challange and restart the challange you would still have a broken axle. The game won't give you the option to repair because it thinks the car is in perfect condition.

    Haha it's certainly been quiet around here! A lot of things have been cooking, new career paths, new map changes, new gameplay development, and more! It's exciting stuff!

    Might I suspect that we may see RLS style Free roam Events (time trials) come to the offical career? I do know we have been working on a bunch of new systems and balancing in preparation for 0.35 among some other drastic economy changes.

    Any AI improvements coming with 0.35 that you can divulge?

    Hey everyone,

    Originally, our plans for the career mode were much broader but lacked depth, as we were waiting on future progress to shape them. Recently, the career team shifted gears, focusing on a more streamlined and cohesive approach.

    We'll be introducing "Career Paths"—distinct gameplay experiences within Career Mode! I'm especially excited about the "APM" Career Path, which you'll get a sneak peek of in the next release. We're designing the system to support additional Career Paths—like Taxi, Police, and community creations, things such as "DaveBro's Career Mod" for instance that can be seamlessly integrated.

    In Career Mode, players will dive into a variety of career-style gameplay options, and so far, it's coming together nicely: The APM career is a test-driver style full-game experience where you join a company as a rookie driver and make your way up the ranks to reach Apex Test Driver, earning certification and experience across all of the various driving styles in the game. Then other career paths that are more driving style focussed such as the BMRA Career (Belasco Motorsports Racing Association) where players go through the various motorsports gameplay from dirt racing to time trials to drag racing, ai races, and drifting for instance. The Logistics Career where we've essentially moved our commercial branch into it's own Career Path, and we'll be including a Freestyle Career, that continues to act as a sort of catch-all for gameplay that isn't yet developed enough to hold it's own Career Path. That said, the next release will be lighter on gameplay. We've undergone a major structural overhaul to improve presentation and accessibility, which has meant putting some issues on the back burner for now inside of the existing commercial branch (now the Logistics path) such as double-trailer deliveries, spawning logic, balance adjustments and more.

    One of our goals is to ensure the overall experience remains enjoyable for both longtime players and newcomers, but we'll still carry and rely heavily the familiar disclaimer: "This is under heavy construction—things aren't fully functional yet and don't reflect the final vision."

    Hahah, not yet they haven't, I've been too slippery with this drift BX I rock all the time :D :D

    In regards to AI improvements specifically, there are some backend systems that use the AI in specific ways that are improved - such as drag racing gameplay - but for AI specifics, nothing to report on yet, but big plans are being discussed regarding racing-specific abilities instead of depending on our current traffic-ai being told, "just uh, just drive faster, you got this!"

    Regarding RLS style free roam events, this is something that will come more naturally from the independent career paths, pull up to the Belasco Motorsports Park and engage in some BMRA challenges, while leveling up and progressing through the gameplay. Specific areas that you simply drive up to and see a 3..2..1.. aren't planned at the moment, but have always been alluring and aren't off the table yet. The drift zones remain the only truly free-roam style gameplay that simply begins by being in the right area under the right circumstances! :)
