yup, can confirm i get this same issue. and then i have to restart the game, but then for some reason saving didn't actually save anything for the past hour or so, so that much progress got completely erased (which happened multiple times)

Heyy, when will we be able to drive to the challenge markers to start them like we used to do before so that it's more immersive than just clicking them to play like a mobile game

I think the career mode should reward players who enjoy Freeroam destruction in Beamng. Don't get me wrong I think having towing, repair, insurance and other damage related fees is essential to bring immersion to the experience, and I'd even ask for car damages to be managed even more deeply in their financial aspect. In no way crashing your car should feel inconsequential and what I imagine could bring even more weight and excitement to this kind of event. Keep in mind that it is a game that offers a unique technology and destruction opportunities, and systematically encouraging players to avoid it at all time feels like wasted potential to me. I know that in no believable world one should obtain money for bursting his car into traffic (except if it is some kind of contract), and I trust the devs to find something better to give the daredevil player some kind of interesting reward (maybe special stores access ? EXP rewards ? Fancy stats ? I don't know for sure).

The goal could be to cause the maximum damage score onto numerous vehicles, with "multiplier" factors like involving traffic cars, taking into account the force of impacts, the severity of damage, the number and types of vehicles involved into the crash, the time elapsed between collisions, the location, the air time, fire triggering etc. just like Burnout did with its "crash mode" but in an open, never ending freeroam way, BeamNG style.

The trade-off would be the price to pay for repair, towing etc. and the collapse of insurance's trust for the player, so it would require some kind of preparation and investment, encouraging us to build a solid financial supply before going all Nightrider mode. The choice of a freeroam car would bring some interesting questions :
    • Do I want to cruise calmly and cause no trouble because I am at the start of my career and I need money, more than the special daredevil rewards ?
    • Do I choose a heavy and robust build to cause more trouble to others while keeping a functioning vehicle, placing my bets onto long lasting destruction and eventually police pursuit to increase the reward even more ?
    • Do I just toss an old car I want to get rid of, to get that insurance money at the expanse of losing insurer's trust ?
    • Do I go full Rocket Bus mode to my certain death for the maximum reward ?
    • Do I go on foot to jump on parked cars for easy but minimal reward ?
Any freeroam session would bring a sense of excitement for the player, by pushing him to find creative ways to bring destruction to the world, without removing the serious consequences of totalling his car, resulting in more activities, gameplay variety, less frustration and less boredom in my opinion.

Anyway Thank you devs for listening and sharing all that progress on carrier mode and giving answers to so many of the community questions, it is very much appreciated so keep it up, you're the best.

Was gonna say this sounds very familiar...then you mentioned Burnout. It just doesn't seem like it fits the theme of career mode tbh, sounds more like a scenario. I think we should have police though, and that can be a more decision making when doing timed deliveries. or perhaps street races, the police presence that can total, ticket or even impound your car. Something that raises the stakes and consequences other than just getting points for wrecking

Edit: If not during a street race. Immediately after a street race, you'll have a wanted level and must evade the cops. So you can take a street race to gain money at the risk of damaging your vehicle during the race, and after during the police pursuit

Thanks for the in-depth suggestion list, it's great! Police presence is something I can't wait to get online in Career Mode, let alone police gameplay itself (being a cop!) It's been on hold while we wait for the AI systems to be improved otherwise we've just got a bunch of police cars ramming into you or crashing into fences and poles just trying to get to you, basically ruining your career experience instead of adding to it.

When it comes to the crash and smash side of career, there are many big plans for this, I've leaked a few of them throughout this huge thread over the months, but it's still WIP and also waiting on other systems before coming online. Stay tuned!

This was actually a bug from the last release it seems, it's not supposed to be like this, and I'm hoping its fixed for the next release - the plan is only APM challenges are accessible from the computer, the rest of Career's freeroam style gameplay is supposed to be strictly drive-to only. APM is in it's early days, and still needs it's proper onboarding before going further into it's gameplay.

That's a big disappoint to hear, I'm sorry that's the experience you were or are having! That issue is no longer present in our working version so the next release will have this taken care of, if a previous hot fix hasn't already fixed it.

I hope you can add dynamic Ai events like in GTA. Like racing an Ai Traffic car, or a traffic stop when you guys add police. And also add more Ai traffic cars.

    Hah, yes very much so!

This is still a pipe-dream of mine, police gameplay in general will bring so much more to the game. Pathing and AI systems aren't currently up to the task unfortunately, so Career Mode has left police out for the time being - it'd be a terrible experience to get your car fixed up, and immediately destroyed by some rogue police that treat you like a punching bag! My first push was to at least get some speed traps in the game, and the concept of a red-light camera working, so far those are the only consequences to breaking the law in the game, outside of insurance/repair costs of course. I'm still hopeful we'll get a team to materialize to work on features like this though!

What about some more unique traffic vehicles. One thing is having the taxi feature actually bring a taxi to pick you up.

Edit: Nice to see a dev from where I am.

There has been on and off testing and dev with taxis and general taxi gameplay for quite a while now, up to this the moment there was a test or two done to have the taxi pick you up and drive you to your destination similar to the way it was done in GTA (I loved that) but I don't think it continued and most likely won't be there any time soon. Things like this are "easy" polish to add comparatively, and much of the team have been focused on underlying systems preventing this fun and surface-level stuff from showing up yet. I'll keep pushing from my end though, great to see more people thinking along similar lines! Thanks for the input and feedback, it's always appreciated. :)

Honestly you dont need the taxi to actually drive you, it just needs to pull up, maybe a short little cutscene using the campaign mode styled painted look, that you appear at your chosen location and the taxi drives away joining traffic. That would be a lot simpler and add much more emersion.

Yup, we'll see how it goes! The simple, "drive up and fade to black" was planned originally for the recovery/tow as well, but still waiting to figure out what treats I need to send the vehicle and physics team so we can get a tow truck ;)

In the mean time, here is a little concept idea! Just a small drive up and fade to a little cutscene image. (I think the intense bloom fits the BeamNG look)

I feel like more mug merch is on the horizon. I hope an rv becomes canon. with clickable cupboard shelves and coat rack inside a thin wooden closet. having more fuel types like propane and waste water sludge or something would be something too. im getting off topic but seeing the beam ng icon "staff pick" feels like a clue (i REALLY hope they add a customizable class c upfit rv for the d series and h series. camper update 2026?)

That would be cool, it's such a good idea to make merch for game like this. We need a Ibishu Pigeon key tag tho. Also I can't believe I got another Staff Pick.

Seeing how much is put into each update, Tdev probably sends each dev a truck full of coffee each morning lol.
