mmm, not so, i have a completley stock settings windows 8 and windows 7 pc, the limited account gets full 100% access to its OWN appdata folder, of course it cant access other peoples, that would defeat the point of being a limited account, also, if your username is an admin, then your going to be accessing stuff, AS AN ADMIN, and, if its YOUR pc, and you didnt set your own account as admin, then your just an idiot -_-

Once again, accessing the folder doesn't equal full access. Just because you can access the folder doesn't mean you can edit it, and even if you can edit it, programs might not be able to.

Applications aren't allowed to write in c:\program files(x86). (unless windows is terribly misconfigured)
Applications are allowed to write in %appdata%. (to store data. that's the only reason this folder exists. the name's a clue)
BeamNG needs to write in its folder.

    conclusion:
BeamNG's default install location is %appdata%.

    You're rude...
But still, one of the program files lets you do that the other doesn't. I'm not a software guy though. To me windows looks screwed and I would reinstall. This threads gets a nomination for ownage of the year 2014. I've only seen a few threads go back on OP so fast.

I hope your not theshark that helps with ror because apps can write in C:\program files(x86) that's where 32 bit programs install the regular program files is for 64 bit apps.

I wouldn't call it rude, I've considered this thread quite bs from the second we started arguing.
No offense is supposed to be taken :)

Oh, that's the 2 program files. Isn't program data a hidden folder? I know there is one that you don't usually touch.

    Yes, i'm theshark from RoR.
No, Applications can't write in Program files or Program Files(x86) until you give them admin rights (or completly disabled UAC (don't do this (no, really not))).

    God, please stop posting.
appdata -> App(lication) Data -> Folder where Applications can store data.

Forget what i said above  (i was talking about Application Data)

\ProgramData is global (and \Users\All Users is a hard link to \ProgramData)
    %appdata% is per user
Both are for programs to save data (and therefore writeable).

There's a compilation of some of the foldervariables http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/mmpc/shared/variables.aspx

TheShark is correct about this. The lack of respect to other users in here is really frustrating sometimes. Seeing that the thread is "BS anyways" should not encourage you to pile the shit even higher. :|

Whole point of appdata is that it is a location that your program can store data without requiring administrator privelages. I have personally used it for this in the past on several machines including a few where I was not administrator.
