In the UK it was midnight, I think they did that in all counties but i could be wrong. So we were the second timezone to get the update. The first was the one that Italy is in.
Have you tried doing the " wuauclt.exe /updatenow " method yet. Just shove that into an admin command prompt and it will start. Open the windows update page to view progress.
After checking my update log and seeing that the windows 10 upgrade had apparently failed to start downloading multiple times somehow, I tried the /updatenow thing. That seemed to be working fine, then I leave the room for a few minutes to have dinner and come back to a blank screen. Screen stayed blank for quite a while with no sign of activity from the HDD light. Figured it failed somehow and restarted the PC and it put WIN7 back on. Kind of frustrated and don't know if it's worth it right now to try again.
When I did the /updatenow thingo, it updated some files, but I'm not convinced the Windows 10 is 232mb... BUT my SSD space did go down, but when I check my confirmation, it still says "We'll update you when its ready!" Its a whole day late in Aussie Land -.- I hate it when it advertises for the 29th and it comes out on the 30th :|
windows update should display the progress of it - - - Updated - - - for those who don't like file explorer/windows explorer defaulting to quick access instead of "This PC" (previously known as My Computer in versions of windows before 8.1): http://www.howtogeek.com/219936/how-to-disable-quick-access-in-file-explorer-on-windows-10/
What if it doesn't tho? It doesn't meniton ANYTHING about Windows 10 D: pls halp me wanna upgrade badly
in that case i have no idea, i've only successfully upgraded one pc in my house(that one pc being mine), i for the life of me can not get my siblings laptop to get past the "preparing installation" part of it
I believe I'm in the same boat as you... We have a laptop running Windows 8.1 (my brother is pretty much the only one who uses it.) and we reserved Windows 10 about a month ago. Windows 10 is obviously released now, but there is no notification, proof, or anything at all of this on the laptop it seems. I'm pretty sure my brother got a small windows update, but that did nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know how to solve this?
YES! ME NO ALONE! (I like to talk like a caveman) I did the /updatenow thing in the CMD and it took up some space on my SSD, enough for an OS, but Windows didn't download anything other than a 232mb update, and it still says we'll tell you, so I guess we've just gotta wait :/
Yay, we are in the same boat! I heard of this updatenow thing somewhere earlier in the thread and forgot about it just now. I will look into that now... You say it still says: "we'll tell you" ("when windows 10 is ready to install"?). Where is this?
Yes sorry, I meant "When Windows is ready to install", you know the windows icon in the bottom right asking about windows 10? it says that there, no "You're ready for an update!"
Yeah, I assumed there'd be some automatic notification. Right now I'm restarting the laptop, because it says to finish installing windows updates it needs to restart. Although the laptop has been stuck on the "restarting" screen for about 5 minutes now... I'll go check on it now.
See, I got an error on the last update, then my screens went black and then it told me restart my PC, it took a while (even on an SSD) but when it came back, nothing, nothing seemed new, nothing changed, just same old Windows 8.1 with prolly better security.
The laptop finished restarting and updating. But same thing. The Windows icon is still there, and says: "we'll notify you when Windows 10 is ready to install", etc, etc... Tried this updatenow thing in command prompt, and still nothing. Didn't get any error codes while doing anything. Windows just seems to be exactly the same with no Windows 10 update notification.
try this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 in another thread i said it won't get a key, ignore that post because i'm an idiot, i looked into it and that's only if you do a clean install, trying it out on my siblings laptop right now and so far it seems to be working, as windows 10 setup opened after it finished downloading
Does this work for "upgrading" or only for a clean installation? Probably a dumb question, but I can't figure out. It looks like this is for a clean installation.
