So, my dad is possibly going to change his car because the flywheel is going and it will cost 1500€ to replace it. The car is ~6000€.(2007 Touran 1.9TDi)
He wants something with good ground clearance, as he had an accident (cracked oil pan when getting off a curb) with the touran.

He likes the third gen forester, but the outback seems like the better choice because of the bigger boot(we travel a bit- we went about 4 times to serbia and every summer we are going to greece).
The diesel seems like a good option as it is economical and most are manual.
Automatics are slow and expensive to repair when something goes wrong.

The budget is ~12000€ and we can get a 2011 one, but I like the exterior of the fourth gen(till 2009) more.

Any suggestions or tips on what to look for?
    Common problems?
    Alternatives?
    Thanks in advance.
