I think you misunderstood. I was talking about how in sci fi spaceships can travel between stars at ludicrously low times, completely impossible by any stretch of the imagination.

I knew what you meant. Of course in sci-fi spaceships can achieve such speedy travel.

IRL however, it won't be the same story.

If they were intelligent enough for that, they wouldn't be a flat earther.

The thing that bothers me isn't so much that flat earthers don't understand the science (or, more often, refuse to understand the science). After all, how many people that fight flat earthers on the internet in support of the spherical earth theory actually understand orbital mechanics, or know how to independently prove for themselves that the earth is round? Just about everyone has arrived at a predetermined conclusion based on their experiences, environment, and other beliefs. It bears reminding that if someone did, theoretically, provide strong evidence that pointed to a flat earth and an impenetrable sky, the rest of us wouldn't exactly be quick to believe it.

The thing that does bother me is the same thing that bothers me about most every other conspiracy theory: why? Why the coverup? Why lie? And unlike the Kennedy Assassination or 9/11 being an inside job, this shadowy group flat earthers are always hinting at isn't trying to cover up something they did to manipulate humankind, but instead something that just... is. It'd be like claiming that the sky is actually purple, but the government doesn't want you to know that, so they built a massive array of blue-colored projectors and doctored our history and media to keep us in the dark. All to cover up something that they didn't do, and does them no real good to keep secret. Presumably for the fun of it.

And massive conspiracies generally just don't happen in our world. If the president and his closest servicemen couldn't keep the Lewinsky scandal secret, how are we supposed to believe that every astronaut, astrophysicist, pilot, meteorologist, navigator, sailor, and any other competency or job field that relies on knowing where one/something is at on the Earth is actually lying to us because they're part of an evil organization? ~800k people don't keep secrets.

I think it was already said somewhere in this thread, but here's a possible reason.

For the case of conspiracy theorists, it makes them feel higher than someone else, they believe they're right so much that they refuse to take in anything that opposes their belief.

When comes to the examples like the Kennedy Assassination, I'm honestly dumb founded. It's an occurrence I think is shrouded in absolute mystery. I've watched the footage several times and it baffles me how Oswald managed to pull it off. We may never know the full truth.

And for 9/11, like Flat-Earth theories, I believe the idea of it being inside job is also utter BS too. I think these people just wants something that gives them another reason to expand their distrust for the government, even if its subconscious and they find themselves legitimately unable to admit it. Believing that our own government attacked and killed nearly 3,000 people with missiles disguised as airplanes and destroying two of NYC's iconic buildings by performing controlled demolitions, all for an excuse to attack the Middle East would definitely give them that opportunity. I understand not trusting the government, they've done extremely shady and questionable things in the past, and they have made some questionable decisions too. However, why would they go the extra mile to attack their own citizens? Eventually word would get out and soon there'd be anarchy, possibly even a revolution. Simply put, they'd have millions of pissed off Americans to deal with, and there'd actually be nothing they can do about it.

It's exactly what Technicolor_Dalek said, you try to provide them evidence to dispute them, and they'll immediately shut themselves off.

The only way you could convince a flat earther (or any conspiracy theorist) of the truth is to somehow make them humble their personality, which is probably impossible. It's useless trying to present evidence to them if they are too proud and self-centered to accept it.

I watch his videos, he does a great job at 100% scientifically obliterating flat earthers. It's funny to see their reaction in the comments. They know they have lost, and so they just throw meaningless insults.

I've heard people say that the solar farms in the US deserts are actually giant mirrors to reflect sunlight into the eyes of anyone trying to peek at UFO wreckage located beneath it

Then why are those "reflective panels" absorbing light and generating electricity?

Actually, it's a sham put in place by Obama, who claimed that the energy generated by the 'solar farm' would power America, when really there is a full scale nuclear reactor that the aliens and Rosie o'donnel built to ensure that American strip mine companies continue operations...

One of my questions is why religion has anything to do with the Flat Earth?

Most churches believed that the earth was round back in the middle ages, (Albeit thinking the sun and stars revolved around the earth) and you'd have to do some deep historical religious text diving to come up with a FE belief system mentioned. Any Bible nowadays says nothing, so how do they claim the Bible as a source? If you know anything, do tell...

(BTW, have read KJV of Bible, they mention nothing.)

This is something i wonder as well. So many people associate christianity and the bible in general with the flat earth theory. They are two completely separate things. In fact there is a scripture (i cant remember where) in the more accurate translations of the bible that describes the earth as having a spherical shape.
Lets not get into this too much though, part of the forum rules for the off-topic section says not to have religious discussions.

    They claim its a composite.

(Which it technically is, although this is taken out of context)

Its a composite of smaller, closer up pictures of the earth, structured together to show more detail.
