Forum changes

If people are admitting they’re underage, I joined when I was 12.
But I went covert-ops to make sure my posts were mature.

I think you should have the ability to "unwatch" profile posts. I'm getting so many alerts from people that spam profile posts xd

 

That's helpful, but It'd be cool to be able to unwatch/watch certain profile posts, similar to watching threads.

 

Personally,i don't even care about ratings anymore,since they were useless and lead to spam at some point.Having 6000 likes is useless,because it doesn't make you Nadeox.

 

I dont really care about how many ratings I have. The spam was because of the leaderboards. Now since the leaderboards are gone, I dont think there will be much spam anymore. But having ratings is still good, because you dont have to say : I agree, I like it or that was useful.

If you ask me, the only big forum change they made that should've been a bit clearer and discussed earlier was the group deletions, people panicked cause they thought all of the group stuff would be removed, but, in the end, there was only dead groups removed

 

well this died. Any updates from the devs? What are you gonna do about the ratings?

 

They're probably going to be gone forever, seeing as that the community can function without them.

The community could also function without avatars and user names, that doesn't make it any less stupid.

 

But did avatars/usernames have abuse and turn the site into a competition? No. The staff saw the writing on the wall and acted accordingly. Can we live without ratings? Obviously we can.

 

Ratings "abuse" wouldn't happen if the site had a ratings limit, just like Rigs of Rods had. While you can live without ratings its still a major downgrade and leads to considerably more spam in the form of crappy 1 word replies.

The idea that it has anything to do with the "competition" is bullshit. If the devs actually wanted to stop the "competition" the like limits, members page, group posts counting as main posts etc. It would have been disabled years ago.

The reason ratings were really disabled is because of a few people complaining about the disagree rating, so instead of giving any useful reply or feedback on it the ratings just got disabled instead.

At this point I would be more than happy with a simple "like" or "thanks" button so I don't have to think up some pointless reply to acknowledge I've saw a useful or interesting post.

 

There was and still is plenty of abuse that happens with avatars and usernames. The number of cropped porn-art pictures has gone down, but there are still the occasional few that some people decides to use. And let's not forget the infamous case of the duck profile pictures either.
There will always be those who abuse the systems, removing an entire feature because of that seems silly to say the least and probably hurts the community in the long run because it only encourages people to make short useless posts instead of just rating a post they like or agree with.

I really do miss having ratings, a lot. It's just not the same without them. It's such a shame that people had to be stupid about it.

The whole duck thing feels a lot different after what happened. :\

 

I don't think the reaction was bad at all either when it came to the ratings being changed, yes some people didnt like it but it was only a really small handful of people. The same thing happens everytime there is a change, usually much more complaining goes on. Just like when the forums changed software to a new layout or any of the other big changes that happened, this was mild in comparison...
