It would be cool to be able to put any engine in any car, just for the sake of testing the physics engine out. It'd be pretty funny putting a 5L V8 in the little Ibishu car!
Although you could by editing some .jbeam files (which I have no experience with), I personally think the dev's already have enough to worry about.
you can! all it takes is a few changes to the .jbeam engine files editing the .jbeam files just to make the engine weaker or stronger is surprisingly simple if that's all you wish to do. go to the folder containing your installation of beamng (should be C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\BeamNG-DRIVE-0.3) and find the 'vehicles' folder. go to the folder for the vehicle you wish to modify (hatch, in this case). find the hatch_engine.jbeam and save a copy of it elsewhere to change things back easily if things get buggy. now open the file with something like notepad (personally, i like Notepad++). once inside navigate to the set of numbers listed below "enginetorque":. the first column of numbers is the rpm's and the second column is the torque corresponding to that particular rpm value. 500 rpm's has a torque of 65, 1000 rpm 93 torque, and so on. underneath is the "engine" settings such as "idleRPM", and "maxRPM". the simplest way to get a v8 engine in the ibushu is to copy the same code directly from the "pickup_engine_v8.jbeam" file into "hatch_engine.jbeam". but you should have a backup of the engine file, so why not give it the torque of a top fuel dragster instead? start multiplying values by 10 and seeing what happens! as long as you keep a clean backup it's no big deal if you break everything. mess around and learn how things work! be curious! you may not know exactly what every bit of code does, but so what? you can make a compact car go the speed of sound, or a moving truck do wheelies and learn things in the process.
