I thought nobody here would know about Powder Toy. I actually made a Lua mod for the game that added a bunch of new stuff, I can post a link if anyone wants it.

They have a better compression algorithm meaning the resulting files are smaller. 7zip will open rar files as well so its compatible with the people who like that software. The main disadvantage is that windows doesnt have native support for rar while it does have native zip support. All i really care for is rar support when attaching files on the forum, i see no reason why we cant. Im totally fine with the game itself using zip files. Full disclaimer: I use winRAR as my zip/rar software. I would really love to use 7zip but it struggles to open many zip files so i don't use it.
ARC supprot plz. http://freearc.org/ Usually compresses stuff as well as 7zip and often compresses better.
Out of interest could you add RAR to that list too? I would like to see how it compares. nvm, Doing my own testing now, will respond with results.

I decided to do many tests on both compressed and uncompressed data types. I used WinRAR to create the RAR and ZIP files. I used freeArc to create the arc files. Here are the links to the files used (ftl flac excluded since that is paid content): Text file: http://textfiles.com/internet/alt-news.txt Mp3: http://www.mixmag.net/music/exclusive-music/download-tokyo-prose JPEG: (A picture of my walking boots made while bored in a place called "Outside", taken with a galaxy s2, 8mp. I chose this because its a really clear picture) EXE: http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ ARC folder: http://freearc.org/ Here are the results: Please note i have not weighted the results, so the mp3 folder will have a much larger impact than the txt file making the stats a bit useless. But they give real world numbers so screw it. aka, its nearly 2am so cba to do proper maths. If anyone wants to do the proper maths, do this: (please post your results if you do) Work out the percentages for each individual format Add the percentages Divide by 6 to get the mean Done
Try compressing to 7zip in FreeARC. I find that a majority of times, the files come out smaller than they do in 7zip and are often smaller than the arc. Different methods for different situations I suppose, I just don't know what the situations are.
I would but its too late(early) for me to want to do more testing. That is why i listed WinZip files as being made by WinRAR since i assumed that WinRAR itself would likely give different results. I would have done 7zip but i have put too much time in the past into it to bother again. Its those times when you are running a mc server with friends and you download a 5 or so custom maps and 7zip was only able to open 2 while claiming the other 3 were corrupt that you give up. WinRAR opened all 5 files with no issue. I should also note i am using WinRAR 5.0 beta 8 64bit. The latest version is 5.11 64 bit, that may or may not do better. I am also using the free version, but that should make no difference. To ensure i am on topic: Archival software is fun and free
I love love love algodoo. I've made so many guns and cars for it. Like nice scripted stuff and things.
Flight simulators are not meant to be crash simulators. It is disallowed by plane manufacturers most of the time. It wouldn't look great if you could simulate a plane smashing into a tower would it?
inb4 isis simulator - - - Updated - - - I'm glad you like it I really haven't touched that in a year, I might get around to making more elements eventually. BTW, it's open source. You can mod it and re upload it if you want to, just giv credit pls.
