The heads are massive and have covers for belts on them IIRC. The power curve is more representative of an OHC engine. I could be remembering wrong though.
    --- Post updated ---
I'm just quoting this post because it shows evidence of Gavril V8s having OHC too early.

what about instead of having entire separate engines, instead having a "pre facelift longblock" which replaces the head mesh, like the Bluebuck or the miramar, with a smaller OHV style head, and a slightly lower torquecurve. combined with the existing old style intake, this would be sufficient.
(pre facelift performance longblocks aren't necessary IMO, as from a performance standpoint, it would make sense to just swap your heads over to a set of OHV ones.)

The problem is that the block design would need to be different because the pushrod passages and cam bore.

the miramar's meant to be OHV and DOHC, and it has that system. (plus, is it really that far fetched that a SOHC engine could have blocked off pushrod passages in it?)

It isn't that far fetched, in fact quite a few engines have both OHV and OHC variants. However, it would make more sense that the OHC Gavril engines are a totally new architecture compared to the proposed Barstow V8s.

I feel like the d series needs a lot more fake wood than it has

going back to the better pre facelift discussion, i think the heads could be made part of the intake, and the earl intake or whatever its called could change the heads to OHV heads and thats it
also i think that we need a diesel tacho since a tacho till 6k rpm wont cut it while revving tto 3.5k

I'm still hoping we get another face-lift for it, but this time a newer one like the Roamer. But I don't think it's very likely.

I would imagine so since there's face lift parts left in the files. The devs must be waiting for the UI updates to be at a releasable state to add more variants of the D series (since it's cluttered up already) Maybe that's another reason why we didn't get the Crawler and Prerunner variants in this update (other than it still requiring more work and bugfixes).

Guessing the facelift would use the interior of the Roamer similar to how the 2000's GMC Sierra and Yukon share the same dashboard IRL.

I'm a MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE Dodge Ram fanboy and I very much wish they'd throw some "ram touches" into the D-Series sometime lol. Yes GM styled stuff is neat and all, but I wish we'd get some Ram lol. But I don't think they will add anything like that because like you said, the files are already pretty cluttered.

just rementioning this old post of mine suggesting a few new engines, now that the Roamer and D series (and likely the H series) are getting 2000 facelifts, I feel like variety in engines is even more important.

I'll preface this by saying I'm very grateful for the devs having finally updated the 4.1 I6, it now fits beautifully in an 85 or 90 D series, but it's not really era appropriate for the 2000 facelifts. As I said before, I think a V6 made out of the OHC V8 would be a fitting option, and would even allow for a reasonable base model facelift roamer.

I think adding interchangeable OHV heads, on a "pre-facelift longblock" to the OHC V8s, would fit very nicely in the 85 and more basic 90 models.
while a diesel I6 would still be a cool possibility, a decent alternative would be the aforementioned ohv heads on the 6.0, as well as an N/A intake, for some slow megachonk bois.
one or two even larger engines, around 7.5-8 litres would also be interesting, whether simply a larger V8, or even maybe a magnum/triton inspired V10.

also, I know this is unlikely, but considering the D-series' age is now extended to around 20 years, I think it's fair to say the Pre-facelift should get a unique set of doors with metal window sills, old style door handles, and vent windows.

Still waiting for that bigger V8... The V6 would be a much better fit now. It makes more sense as this is about where Inline was left in the dust and V6 was becoming the way to go. For the V8 I think there should be 2: A hastily made (In Gavril world) Large V8 out of the 423 with a fuel injection thrown on, with a better tuned intake for the 90 and a slightly worse one for the 85. Then for the later model (considering whether or not they will be making a facelift for the D-series) a ~8.0l V8 or V10, as that was the era where GM had the 8100 Vortec, Ford had the 6.8l Triton V10, and Ram had the 8.0l Magnum V10. I feel like a big motor like those would work as we need a bigger motor, especially as bigger vehicles are being added. Like the Excursion esc XLT and D30, aswell as the Chief Rancher D35. (It's SRW so it would make more sense to have a gasser in there imo)

add to that that quite a few for E450s and such also use the triton V10, it just makes sense to add one.

The Facelift could do with more modern looking door handles (as well as interior door cards but this is for another post) Something more rounded like this. Not sure if the Roamer ones could be suitable, Imagine it would be more work to take the ones from the Roamer instead of designing ones from scratch.

Trim moldings could be different too (more rounded and softer looking)

they definitely could be. ignoring how to make them selectable, even I could port them with ease.

I was thinking about taking the Roamer handles and putting them on the D Series Door meshes. Wondering if it would be a hard task.

Just wondering, what do people think the D-Series timeline will be concerning all of the facelifts?

IIRC the current timeline for factory configs is:

    1985-1988: Face sag
1988-1990: Face sag + intermediate headlights
    1990-1994: "Original"

That leaves 6 years before the Roamer's new facelift comes in, and it would be weird to have the truck get the fancy fascia before the comparatively high end family SUV. But looking at the files, someone on the team at least toyed with the idea. So what happens with the D-Series after 1994?
