I dunno about boring, the base mod is still really well made! I just want to add a few bits to it, that's all.
I've got a military style pintle hook modelled but not yet textured, and I also had plans to slap the game's default tow hook on the civilian version too if that isn't something in the pipeline for official updates. I'd hope to add the towhooks alongside a tandem front bumper when I get round to it.
There's a bunch of stuff I want to eventually add to it, however I have some other projects to finish, and messed up my wrist about a week ago...
Oh man, yeah, wishing you a quick recovery too! I'm excited to see future updates and projects, but don't rush yourself if it could make your wrist worse! In GPV related news, I have been mucking about with LUA and after a couple of hours of confusion, have managed to make a standalone dog-leg gearbox for the GPV. Steering wheel users who have an H-shifter can select the part to get an accurate to real life shift pattern without rebinding any controls or affecting any other vehicles or standard GPV gearboxes. The default shift pattern on an H-shifter is 1-2-3-R in the following pattern: 1 3 2 R With the dog-leg gearbox, you can now shift R-1-2-3 in the following pattern: R 2 1 3 This makes repeated forward and reverse shifting (for example, when manoeuvring at low speed, rocking the vehicle over rocks our out of mud etc.) much more convenient, while simultaneously making shifts between 2nd and 3rd easier while the vehicle is already moving. Given the torque of the GPV's standard engine, I don't tend to need 1st gear much for road use (thanks to my clutch pedal), unless faced with hills or towing some weight, so it really neatens up the gears in my opinion, putting the manoeuvring ones together on the left and the driving ones in the centre. Even if you think I'm wrong, it's accurate to the real gearbox at least! P.S. I accidentally money shifted from 1st to reverse within 2 minutes of getting the LUA to work... :'D
Holy shit, I was just thinking to myself earlier yesterday about whether or not it was possible to use LUA to simulate dogleg gearboxes without having to rebind keybinds! That's amazing!
It's a miracle I managed to get it to work at all, let alone without any bugs. I'm not much of a programmer, and there's absolutely no documentation on manual gearbox shift logic anywhere. The actual code changes required are very small, but there was a lot of experimentation before I could achieve the desired result. When I'm next at my PC, I'll have to make a note of what exactly I did, in case it helps anyone in the future. Maybe I should make a separate Stambecco gearbox mod which can serve as reference material. Edit: I uh, may have gotten very carried away... New update dropping whenever it gets approved. Edit 2: New version of the GPV Expansion approved on the website, but the in-game mods menu is currently still showing the old version. Check that you've definitely got V1.1 if you aren't seeing the new interior features! Edit 3: I think it's available in-game now too!
the few google related images show basically some stove pipe tied to the windshield frame, probably to leave the windshield free to move
Hmm yeah, looks like it's a very specific part. Quite consistent results showing the same snorkel. There are some comically tall exhaust pipes too.
Holy cow, that's terrific! I might have to ask for your help later when it comes time to make the transfercase lever for my covet mod... I'm really impressed
I'll see what I can do to help if you need it. Really it was just a lot of scratching my head at various files from the Stambecco and experimenting until I finally got it to work for the GPV. Not entirely sure how I got it working in the end, but hopefully if I don't touch it, it won't break. Everything needed for the animated shifters will be located in the drivetrain folder in the expansion mod's zip file.
The top on the real vehicle is assembled more like a tent, where you first have to slot the supporting structure together and then drape the canvas over the top and tie it down. As a result, I think it's more realistic to make this canvas top a selectable part rather than something you can fold on the fly, as the entire roof structure would need redesigning to make a folding variant work. It's the same story with the Hopper; the real life vehicle has a manually removable fabric section. I do intend to have variants of the canvas though, if you wanted to have the sides on or not, for example. I'm getting internet at my new house in a week, so I should be able to continue with the expansion pack shortly. It'll be good to get back to it at last!
