Yes, I feel like I have to read up old motoring magazines from an internet archive if I want to hear someone talk about safety properly I don't know when the great migration happened but it seems there's a lack of knowledge and expertise in many sectors that should be ... exceptional? wonder when all these purposeful tools and devices started becoming relics
Probably about the time when sealed beams stopped being used --- Post updated --- Its also amazing how little thought is given outward visibility of new cars. Worse still when one is of very short stature, and has mirrors and A pillars creating huge, glaring blind spots that can block out entire vehicles just off the forward looking position
I get to drive lots of new and old cars at my work, and let me say cars after 2007-ish have horrible outward visibility. A W210 or W211 E-class provides a much better view of your surroundings than a brand new W214 E-class with its thick A-pillars, deep dashboard & seemingly smaller headspace. A Co-worker of mine has a ZL1 Camaro and wow is that basically driving blind, especially with the 5% tint they have on all their windows. With how many pedestrian safety laws we have, it's amazing how stuff like this is allowed / happens because of other regulations. Its really a sign that there's too much regulation in the auto industry nowadays but nothing will be done about it.
Auto safety regulations are such a mind boggle, too much of thing and the other is hardly even glanced at. Motoring, and not crashing, have become quite dangerous in the past twenty or so years, still at least we are much safer crashing our cars
