Australian police have cancelled any plans to add Ford Mustangs to their line-up after the vehicle failed their tests. Car had poor brakes & it overheated after 2 laps of the police circuit during a simulated pursuit. We are probably going the Volvo route which is nice.
Why do they need mustangs, anyway? While we're on the topic of pursuits; I thought this was pretty entertaining. I heard them call out 130mph at one point. Hauling ass.
I get braking and cornering (it's a mustang) but what were they doing to that poor car to make it overheat?
Highway Patrol vehicles, HWY Patrol are the ones that use the V8s It was driven fast around a track, that's all. Its freezing here so environmental heat wasn't a factor.
damn I think my next car is gonna be a charger pursuit car. those things sound almost as good as our 4.6 ...and they are a good deal quicker I imagine too.
The chipped ones haul ass too, but not all of them are chipped (though you could easily do it yourself as well).
Strange, if NSW Police can get Walkinshaw bloody HWP vehicles, surely they can slap some Brembos onto the Mustang fleet. Speaking of police Mustangs, saw the DBQ rego'd one near my university
and that's why we have the chevy Camaro. also, i'm wondering what the 6th gen police car is going to look like.
but I like Camaros more than mustangs. you can see i'm a chevy fan by my profile. (I change my profile sometimes, so don't joke about this if I ever change my profile.) --- Post updated --- turns out the FIRST EVER HONDA IN THE USA is getting a second chance at life. it was a 1/50 1600 prototype from 1967. the car was found in the Midwest. i'm not into Hondas, but I figured i'd post this because it'still a cool old discovery of an antique car.
Wow cool story. Bet that is a rare exception when it comes to hondas in that it's worth something. Now I advise what I always advise in a situation involving an old Honda. Drop a k24 block with a k20 head in it, and start a business that bottles and sells the tears of mustang and Camaro owners. Might need suspension as well
So you take the cop hardware out along with some odd bit's here and there. Now your down to 4k. It's a start I guess.
Naw. Just take it all out. Gut it. 1 seat, a drivetrain, a gearbox, wheels, a stripped frame, and an engine. but then functionality goes out the window...
Lol functionality. You know and I know you do because of your attitude. That is the last thing a REAL car guy cares about. My Honda weighs 2500 pounds. If I didn't daily drive it it'd weigh 2150.
If I had to go buy a new(ish) used cop car, I would wait until the new Caprices get old enough to go to the auction. Because I say its the beefiest new police car out there, they seem to be exclusively used by State Troopers, It has an LS engine, Its RWD, I repeat, Its RWD, and they don't sell them to the general public. And, they seem to haul some proper ass, I was passed by one on the interstate while I was doing 75, and he passed me like I was standing still. And, to top it all off, Its a hell of a nice looking car. And, I have a fairly high suspicion its another Aussie import.
I'd go for a Charger or a Tahoe. Something about the caprice's styling strikes me as off. Knoxville Police is switching over to Chargers, and I really like the look of them. I got run off the road by one of these driving too fast on a residential road with no lights or siren on, and I didn't mind. He punched it as he was passing me and, damn it sounded good. I also like the simplicity of the vics. Not a fan of Knox county's chargers at all though.
