You guys use Windows CE every day without major issue though. Alot of TVs and set top boxes are CE, as were most ATMs and a huge amount of sale terminals.

Seen BSOD ATM quite few times and there seems to be issues with those sale terminals each week at stores I visit, but they get the job done, not sure if sale terminals run CE though, years ago they used Windows NT and kept using even after Win 2000 came out.

ATM's actually were quite fast to use when they still had text based UI, then those were upgraded to more modern graphical UI and there has been lag after each press of button ever since.

You can tell when marketing has too much control over the things, with cars you loose many good features, tires became huge diameter and wide, with ridiculously low profile, useless on poor road conditions. First you have good amount of gauges, then they took most off, put warning lights instead and so on.

Might be fine for average person, but quite torture when you are not, it is like being caged in a cradle most of the time, but clean and uncluttered makes sales and marketing goes by that.

My favourite example for that is the spare tire why dont we have them anymore? Tgis tyre weld wont work when you need it

To increase boot space, reduce weight and reduce cost to manufacturer. The tyre repair stuff will work for long enough to get you to a garage, but certainly isn't as good as a proper spare tyre and usually prevents the tyre from being reused forcing the customer to buy a new one.

I guess the average person isn't able to replace a spare tyre at the roadside while the canned repair stuff will usually be easier to use for most people. But a space saver spare wheel is preferable imo.

I had a fun idea for a low budget racing series. 1000 dollar total car budget, 100-130hp power limit, only allowed to use space saver spares. Think about it for a second. Corner speeds will be low but everyone will be driving on the absolute limit because the stakes will be low. Rules on contact will also be fairly lax to allow 3 cars to be going thru a turn that has room for only 2.5 cars. Anyone can buy anyone elses car minus the spares at the end of the race for 1k dollars to keep people from trying to have faster cars. Spare tire lemons.

That sounds like a really good category.

I would be tempted to have a class with stricter no contact rules though, since the category would make a fantastic way to get into racing on the cheap. In which case not everyone would want to have their cars being totalled at the end of 5 races.

I would probably also mandate a roll cage be fitted to all cars, which would give those with money a stiffness advantage, maybe the extra weight would negate that advantage? Equally the roll cage would likely have to be excluded from the budget?
I am not too fond of the enforced being able to buy anyone's car for $1k but I honestly can't think of a better way to enforce the $1k limit. Perhaps having an adjudicator panel that will inspect and value the car before each race could ensure fairness?

Yeah the claiming anyone's car rule isn't very popular but it's certainly not my idea. Motogp in 2013 had a set of rules for not factory teams called claiming rules team. Basically it let the factory teams buy an engine from any CRT for way less than it cost to build to keep the crt teams honest. In return the crt squads got an extra 5 liters of fuel and double the engines thru the season, but also had to run a spec ecu. The important take away is no one ever bought a motor because the factory teams would never want to lose face for saying "the budget guys are actually challenging our 10 million dollar prototypes." but it also meant a very wealthy private team couldn't come in and spend factory money to compete under budget rules. In our case maybe there needs to be a few rules or a different way but I'm fine with anything that keeps the money out of the spotlight. Cages might not be needed If you never break autocross speeds.

If you are wanting to do a contact racing series a roll cage is pretty much needed. Not just for the roll over protection but for the side impact protection. Especially on cars that are under $1k because they will likely have trash safety to begin with never mind after getting to the age they will be at.

Fine forget the contact. People will rub anyway but I never intended for any actual shunting or side swiping. Just trying to fit a little more car in the gap than would be acceptable in a car with Nice paint ;) a cage might be needed but it costs more than the car it's going in.
    Edit:
I want to buy that 500 dollar 95 civic and prime it black. Than spray paint big white numbers in the doors and maybe a really rudimentary skull on the hood. If not that than probably a paper mache hood scoop. The finishing touch will be either flame decals, or a racing stripe mustang style.

At -20C, things start to get interesting, that stuff is not coming out from bottle anymore, so you put it on dashboard and try to get it warm, but because of great fuel economy, heater is not very good when stationary, which means toes will start to freeze, that horrible pain goes away, there is no feeling in toes anymore, naturally it is pitch black and the wolves howl nearby.

At -48C it really does not matter if you have a flat tire as tires will not flex anyways, they will work without air just fine.

Sounds to me quite close to this folk race class they have in Sweden:

Just a quick question is it possible to have a supercharged i6 or v12 or is it only possible with i4 i5 v6 and v8s? Also what would be better twin turbos or supercharger and turbo?

There is no any reason why cylinder configuration would affect if you can have supercharger or not, I don't really know where this thought comes that cylinder configuration would have something to do with possibility to supercharge an engine, this is second time I read of such post.

One of the most known V12 had supercharger:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin

You can think supercharger being like alternator, it is just a device, which usually belt turns, then it compress air to intake, it is nothing more than a air compressor (intake being air tank), something has to turn it and it compress air, it does not do anything else and you can have them in almost any shape and form.

Turbo is also nothing more than air compressor, but instead of belt, it is turned by exhaust.

Is there such a thing as a turbo that is powered by an electric motor? (in the context of cars ofc)
I guess technically it would be powered by the altinator but you could store the electricity and have it controlled by a computer, meaning you can remove any turbo lag and adjust how much boost you want to give the engine in realtime electronically.

    probably horribly inefficient though :p

Of course there is, as well as fan blade looking thing you put to intake piping. There is also magnets you put into gas tank. Common to all those is they are snake oil, don't do really anything, just useless junk sold to common people.

Never I have heard about any electric motor thing that would actually increase air pressure at intake. I guess issue is converting motion to electricity and back to motion or using motion to compress air, you get more losses when converting energy.

Quick search brought up this though, so maybe modern times are bringing that to somewhat useful level? Those hoax electric turbos have been around for really long time, but maybe Audi is figuring out something real:

The electric motor would be very heavy with its power supply to be able to move enough air. One of these jet engine would be used to drive a turbine that would compress air. I've thought of using a small gas gen to eliminate turbo lag in big turbo small engine setups. The principal is almost like a gas generator in a rocket engine. Small rocket makes gas to spin turbine connected to fuel and oxidizer pumps to feed the huge actual engine. Maybe just stick to an normal turbo.

Let me just leave a reminder that street drifting is an illegal and dangerous practice and if you get caught doing it in japan you dishonor your entire family and yourself (not to mention lose your license).
The initial d videos are pretty cool, but let's not forget lives are potentially at stake.

You must be fun at parties.

And yes, I did know that. That's where the fun and badassery lies. I do streetlight drags all the time, myself.

Well if traffic is clear stop light drags are okay, certainly a long way from swinging your car wildly around a tight, dark road. Personally, I think fun can be had in a car without breaking laws, and a track is best suited for competitive driving and taking a car to its limits :)
