You could get those with the 2.2 Turbo in them. That engine turned a terrible car into a notaso-terrible one.
Who else hopped this would start being mass produced?? Except the color... The Ford F-350 Mighty Tonka:
Why they keep shrinking beds in trucks? 70's trucks had a lot longer beds. Neighbor is trying to find truck that would actually be usable as a truck, however only those with dual wheels seem to have some length in their beds these days.
You've clearly never seen your average work truck then. Those almost exclusively come with 6.5ft or 8ft beds. The problem is that people who know nothing about trucks buy them with the useles 5.5ft bed.
Don't see much of such outside US, those mini bed versions seem to be indeed what people buy. Euro versions generally have shorter beds and many manufacturer is selling even shorter ones now, something like 3-4ft or at most that 5.5ft. Car size vs bed size is another bit of problem, these older ones had quite lot of bed for their size. I guess it is that many people buy a truck when they don't really need a truck, so bed size does not matter. Or maybe I just have hidden JDM fetish
The pussification of the pickup industry is in full swing, unfortunately. You'll never understand how hard it was to find my mom's new pickup. Crew-Cab (4 door) with a standard 6.5ft bed. Talk about a needle in a haystack.
Honestly, huge pickup beds are a pain to deal with. The vast majority of pickup owners don't need the huge 6ft beds, so they don't buy them. My dad's GMC is a crew cab but has the shortest bed available. The truck barely fits in our garage because of how long it is. We've never had any problems with the bed being too small either, and I know my dad would have loved an option for a shorter bed.
We actually use a truck for truck things. It's towing a camping trailer, hauling a golf cart, hauling 2x4's and PVC piping, etc. The 5.5ft bed is completely useless in my eyes.
Putting timber to bed should not be test in how good engineer you could be, hence long bed is nicer for that. Short bed versions won't be able to transport even ladders on bed, you have to use red flag when transporting anything bit longer than walking stick, so for those who actually need long bed situation is not very good. If good old STW could have longer objects in trunk than modern truck can carry on bed, I think somewhere something has taken a wrong turn.
We haul a big camper with ours, and we use it when necessary for yard work. The short bed works fine. We even have a bed cap on it, which limits how tall objects can be. I understand why you and other people may want the longer bed, but most of us don't need the extra room.
That's my biggest complaint with the Silver Dodge, It's my first, and very certainly going to be my last short bed (6.5 ft). I'd happily give up the ext.cab for an 8 ft bed. You have to leave the tailgate down 9 times out of 10 with it, if you put a tool box in it you've only got about 4 ft of usable bed, I can't use any of the camper shells I've already got, or use our slide in camper. Also I think long beds have always looked better. Well better proportioned anyway. Also, in case everyone forgot, the 8 ft bed became standard across all trucks so that a full 8x4 sheet of plywood could fit perfectly flat and be stacked in the bed This is my silver truck, And for reference, this is my work truck, which has a long bed.
That work truck indeed looks to have better proportions. My eye says that cab could be even bit shorter and it would look even more utilitarian, which with a truck is always a plus. With your silver truck there is still somewhat usable space compared to some new Toyotas for example. I transported some drywall sheets in STW, they wouldn't believe in hardware store that would be possible, had no problem, no rear seats so there was plenty of room and as I lowered rear window that remaining few inches was not a problem.
That disgrace was not a Challenger. It was a Mitsubishi λ! --- Post updated --- Let's wipe any record of the Mustang II from history! Mustangs don't go on Pinto frames!
