Not Canadian enough, it needs to have maple leaves on the hubcaps, like this 1960 Ford Frontenac does.

*a very fast VW that has room for the whole family and their luggage. Again, if you want to have fun with a new vehicle, you need to fork out pretty much cash.

Or just buy a 70's sedan and you'll the time of your life and that just for 2k. Oh, there's also the Focus RS and the Golf R estate, 350 HP seems like enough HP to have fun. And still they have enough places to carry your familly around.

its probably a safety feature to alert other drivers. Similar to how many cars will automatically enable the hazard lights.

The Kia Stinger is also coming at some point and could be pretty fun. I guess you also have the German cars too along with the new Alfa if you have a little money to spend.

I think it will be interesting to see how hybrids systems effect this. Ofc you will get a lot of slow hybrids, but I wonder if anyone will do a hybrid system designed to give quick performance in terms of 0-60. Also going to be interesting to see whether competent 4 wheel drive systems become more normal with cars that have 2 powertrains.

I was just reading the August issue of Motor Trend in my local library, and I noticed something strange written by Frank Markus in his "Technologue". I'll paraphrase it the best I can.

"Instead of demanding Americans to learn more in driving when they fail their tests, the DMV simply makes the tests easier to pass."

    *most frustrated facepalm in history*

You're telling me that you're going to let 16-year-olds barely pass an almost-meaningless test and show no driving skill whatsoever before giving them their licenses to drive 2 ton mama tanks around crowded city streets?! Just...how does this happen?! This country is pretty much based around cars, and yet learning to drive is treated so much like a right that nobody bothers to learn how to drive properly...and the DMV seems to not care in the slightest about this....

    Just...how?

In my opinion, it's on the parents, not the state, to teach kids how to drive. I get really frustrated by parents who make almost no effort to teach their kids how to drive, then turn them loose on the world with a car and a license so they can learn the hard way by crashing.

Well, true enough. Also mentioned in the Technologue that I quoted in my first post is this (again, paraphrased):

"Home-schooling can come with its own set of dangers, as well, as parents sometimes fudge the numbers to try and get their children on the road."

Of course, quite a lot of parents take driving seriously (such as my own parents), and it's more often than not that their teens get the required 100 hours behind the wheel (or very close to 100 hours), but not giving teens enough prior experience before they start driving in 2-ton SUVs and trucks seems very silly to me. However, at least we don't have no-license-required cars, or I'm quite sure that our cities would be chaos.

The issue is that a lot of parents are shit drivers. I take no issue with parents teaching their kids how to drive, but I think there should be a government ran test before they are allowed to gain a full license to ensure everyone meets a base line level of competence. Mainly cause no one else wants to get smashed of the road by someone with a full license who has a total of 1 hour sat in the drivers seat. Then if a parent wants to hire a teacher to teach their kids how to drive (who will likely do a far better job than they can) then that is equally their choice.

Which is essentially how it works in the UK.

The car and trailer test though, its too damn expensive. The others I can (mostly) deal with.
    • £23 for computerised theory test
    • £62 (£75 weekends) for driving test
    • £115 (£144 weekends) to do an advanced driving test to gain the ability to tow trailers (over 750kg)

Also, if you fail one of them you have to pay to retake it. I guess it encourages people to git gud before doing the tests.

    ... I guess it's mine now...

Should be about 500€ to put it in a almost "New" shape, this price includ, every plastics (Bumpers...) Suspensions, (Stock VW parts), Seals and some and a new Clutch. And an electric radio antenna, 'cause it's cool.

Oh and a new Head gasket, it have never been changed in 30 years and almost 400 000 km, well the engine have never been touch (Well for important parts) from the day my parents bought it. Because... DIESEL
I'll have to repaint the steelies and do some mastic works, because my mother isn't really kind with her cars.
The paint will probably be the most expensive thing, a very rare, beautiful "Memphis" special paint, gray with magnific light blue reflects.
Seems like a good dealy driver, and will probably the first car I drive, the 403 won't be done in 2 years.

This car is a part of my family, a part of my life, It was here when I was born, and it would hopefully be here when I died. I love her. My little personal tractor

Yes, that is all the testing for a car license (although if you have a driving instructor they will charge around £24 per hour for lessons). For the driving test you will need to rent a dual control car from a driving instructor too, which will cost about £50. Not sure if they charge people that they didn't teach more. My instructor gave me the test rental for free after I helped him with getting Win10 and wifi drivers installed on his laptop.

There are quite a few more fair family cars. The turbo and v6 ATS aren't bad, and the v6 malibu also isn't terrible. The actual power from the v6 camry is pretty good, if they could refine the driving a little more. I haven't driven a newer camry though, they might be kinda fun. The Civic SI is still out there, and Kia/Hyundai look to be putting out some new stuff soon. There are even a few coupes that might come out soon that are cheap and fun to own.

I'd say while big V8 cars sadly seem to be on their way out (and there really is no true replacement for displacement) fun cheap cars are still a thing. It's just that the v6 Accord was a staple in that group, and I'm sad to see it go.

Two questions for everybody. First, what would be the best vehicle to pull a good V8 out of for an engine transplant? Second, does anybody want a Toyota 1FZ-FE engine with a blown head gasket?

Glad I didn't have to pay $150 to be able to tow trailers, that seems a bit steep.

Wow. It still has the black and white number plate, which is rare enough to be mentionned.
Pretty good for a first car.
I'm curious though. How old is that Golf ?

We all wonder. I was lucky; I grew up playing racing games and my mother was sort of into driving, so I had some idea how a car is supposed to move by the time I got set loose on the streets (though I was terrible at merging and changing lanes; this has improved). I pity the millennials who went to public school, had younger, more "environmentally conscious" parents, and had no other car-oriented influences growing up; they end up being the people who would rather take the bus and when they do get a car they get some stupid subcompact automatic because it gets good mileage or the seats are comfortable or it's cute or it has Bluetooth or something stupid like that.

It seems that we in germany are a bit behind on the enviramental stuff because were i live everybody hates it and i never seen a prius at a dealership or driven round here. Also what i hear from my brother who is still in school everybody except 2 or 3 in his class is into cars and knows how to drive them only sad thing is that theyre all bmw fans and my brother (like me) hates bmws
