Bought a new car today Only $50. Basically bought it for the rust free tailgate but i should be able to make a but of money off of it. It has 300000km and its a twin cam manual but its currently defected for a number of things so i doubt it will ever see the road again sadly.
I'm getting real tired of electric car advocates that think EVs are made of pure gold, they apparently have no flaws and they'll solve all of the world's problems. Almost every Engineering Explained video I watch now has at least one comment about how this could be so much simpler if they just used electric instead. We get it, electric cars are the way to go, but can we at least not marvel at the engineering that was explained in the video? They all seem so full of themselves. I think electric cars are pretty neat, but their advocates are getting on my nerves to the point that I don't want to ever get an electric car just to spite them. Like Subarus, great cars, but I wouldn't want to get one just because of the reputation of their owners (not anybody on the forums though).
Tbh if you are looking for nothing but intelligent discussion the youtube comments section isn't really the place to be looking. Granted it does happen occasionally though so you need to ignore 70% of it to get to the good stuff. Since its mostly people taking a sports team attitude to technology.
the subaru owners here in germany are completly diffrent they are mostly elderly people and the ones who have a wrx sti are mostly the ones who drive them because they want a rally car the vaping wrx drivers are here bmw drivers mostly. Also the whole world cure called electric car isnt true at all they are better at the place where they are running but productionwise theyre worse than a new american truck wich sometimes means that you can drive a new truck for 5 years until theyre more damaging to the enviroment than a electric car and most people (here at least) sell them after that time again because they get a new company car then
Learnt myself some new car knowledge today. Turns out that modern ABS systems are tuned for each specific model and variant of car. On high performance cars these systems are actually being ran highly strung, they tune them to the exacting specifics of the vehicle in order to extract maximum performance. This means that if you change even the tyres to non OEM spec tyres you can actually start to face issues where the ABS can malfunction. The same goes for any component in the braking system, since if you change the calipers you change the way the brakes respond. This is because the ABS has a map for how it thinks pushing pressure to the calipers should respond, with new after-market calipers they will repsond differently and confuse the ABS. Meaning if you slam the brakes with upgraded components it can cause the ABS to think that you have locked up the wheels and reduce braking pressure, thus your car doesn't stop so well. In economy cars the issue is much less present since they don't tune them so far. In order to prevent this issue when modifying a car, you need to install a motorsports ABS system. However if you try to use that motorsports ABS system on slippery or icy roads, it will not perform anywhere near as well as the stock car with stock components. Since it isn't tuned for that sort of situation. Also, if you try to "solve" the issue by removing an ABS fuse or some other sort of hack then you run into even more serious issues. Since the ABS is designed to control braking bias between the front and rear of the vehicle. So under hard braking without the ABS the rear wheels are almost guaranteed to lock up long before the front wheels. As I mentioned, this sort of stuff only applies to higher performance modern vehicles (like BMW M series, AMG and Porsche stuff). Since economy cars don't use such advanced systems. The advantage of those systems though is that with the stock OEM setup the car can stop faster than it ever possibly could without any form of ABS. This is because you can't control the brakes as precisely as the ABS systems are capable of doing since you only have 1 pedal vs the ABS systems many controls.
That reminds me, my Escort has no ABS so I need to go out and practice threshold braking. Twice now I've slid on wet roads trying to do a full-force stop. One of those times I flew through an intersection on a very stale yellow because I knew I wouldn't be able to stop in time so I just floored it again (probably wouldn't have made it to work on time if I had been able to stop, but still). The front tires I got with this car being fried all to heck probably doesn't help. I like to drive, but my skills aren't always so sharp, even if the coworker (now supervisor) who's always bumming rides off me thinks they are (it seems to be mainly aggression, rather than skill, that he's reacting to).
the cheapo systems are also per vehicle and even more easily confused. They simply have a map of the maximum rate of deceleration possible for a given wheel, usually on damp tarmac as a good middle ground between wet tarmac and dry tarmac. if the wheel decellerates faster, release. They arent smart
I have a problem with it aswell and its why would you get that if you can get my car for less money with more kit in it
From what I have heard about the Tesla Model 3, gotta say, I am certainly not stoked. Windscreen wiper controls are on the touchscreen, apparently there are also no rain sensors for them either. There is currently no radio functionality (with FM streaming coming via TuneIn at a later point [radio via internet]). So hey, if it starts raining heavily and you see a Tesla Model 3, give it a bit of room, since the diver is gonna be trying to find the controls for the windscreen wipers in some menu so that they can see out of their car.
Now thats just plain stupid design atleast a rain sensor could be standard my sisters fabia had it as standard also were i live i often dont have internet so i couldnt listen to the radio so all in all you spend alot of money for a car wich cant do the stuff your old one could. Edit: Im probably gonna stockpile old cars now if electric cars continue to remove features i want in my car i also should get a alfa quite soon then before its to late.
If I'm honest, the touch screen has always been my least favourite part of Tesla. I love touch screens for a lot of stuff, but not everything. I guess they're really going all out on these cars being fully self-driving in the near future.
Personally I love physical buttons and find the Tesla software a bit of a pain. And that is from a passenger type perspective, I wouldn't want to use it while driving.
