Well, watching back through some FH4 content put out by the developers, and I'm seeing some good (making supercars less off-roadable, a "car mastery" system that fortunately does not change how the car actually drives, and a map that looks like an HD remix of Durham Road from NFS High Stakes, which was & still is one of my favorite games), but I still can't get over some of the other stuff including:

-Map still seems very "noob in a V12 swap" optimized, with few paved technical (i.e. pass racing) roads that I can tell so far and a crummy single freeway with one open end and one roundabout end which will make extended highway battles difficult. Of course, most of the freeway racing I've seen in FH videos tends to be freeway drags anyway, i.e. "the one thing that will get me to lay off my usual defense of American car culture".

-I haven't actually watched the "full car list" video, but have seen some evidence of actual British cars; you'll still have a hard time convincing me, however, that this won't be the same thing from Horizon 3 where the game paid lip service to a few Basic highlights of Australian car culture while ignoring the vast majority of cars that Australians actually modify and race because they didn't think they were worth the effort, and also including a bunch of cars that weren't really a part of Australian car culture or would be flatly illegal in Australia (i.e. anything LHD).

-Also, did we really need the ability to make our drivers dab?

-Or more Rocket Dummy/Liberty Crock, for that matter?

Not making that up. It's one of the victory emotes, apparently.

At least theyre not dabbing behind the wheel...
But still, I declare it the cringiest car game ever. Even "3D CAR EXTREME DRIVING REAL SIMULATOR for IOS and Android" type of stuff cant compete.

If I do get that game, I now know exactly what my avatars victory emote will be. Although, if they have a fidget spinner emote, I might have to change my mind xD

I don't know why they would need to add emotes. The series was fine without them....

    Probably because GTA5 had them.

Also likely that they are trying to add RPG style elements to their games in order to increase player retention and social engagement. Which should help keep the profit stream running from micro-transactions and DLC going for longer and generating more revenue.

Well, I doubt you can leave the car though like in GTA V.

From what I've seen this will be on the post-race results screen online.

Atleast you ain't doing it while driving or racing, otherwise you'd be acting a bit... ridiculous.

But atleast there's a actual drivable taxi for the game (no, the Crown Victoria doesn't count as a taxi, as the vehicle wasn't made only for public transport commercial purposes).

True. Overall, though, FH4 is just another example of what I like to complain about in modern video games. See, it seems developers learned a long time ago that there was no money to be made in appealing to mature adults, because even if the average age of a gamer is 39 or something now, I forget the exact number, these people tend to have real lives, families, jobs, and critical thinking abilities - in other words, higher-priority claims on their time and money - that make them rather unreliable customers for a business model based on DLC, microtransactions, and to some degree, being able to play every day or almost every day. The ones you want are the kids with too much access to Mama's money, and the addicted rich who have a compulsion to spend insane amounts of time & money on even mediocre games. They are the ones who will buy your game sight-unseen based only on the scummy tactic of pre-order exclusive content and the words of bought-off reviewers, or even worse, blind franchise loyalty. They are the ones who will every DLC and season pass no matter how much of a rip-off they are, just to say they have everything. They are the ones who will buy ruinously expensive microtransactions just to customize their look, show off, or have an easier path to the top. And they have the free time to play all day, every day. What's not to like, unless you have principles.

    Bungie-Activision and EA called.

Also, I spend more time on the computer than I actually play video games. Not shocking to me though.

I never said Forza was the only offender. In any case, it's annoying to watch games get dumbed down to appeal to these people. Physics have cartoony drifting tacked on or are simplified to make driving easier. The races, and the games themselves, become shorter and easier, and they throw cars & money around like candy. The car lists themselves are full of headline-friendly (i.e. Basic) supercars and cult classics, while the lower-line and older models that people actually drive and modify are considered not worth the effort and thus ignored, though I must say Forza has some notable exceptions to this one (on the other hand, I suspect many of them are recycled from previous games in the series). The car customization, too, often falls victim to this, with two franchises that I know of now boasting overfender kits made by subsidiaries of 6666 Cusoms. The maps themselves have roads that are too wide, too smooth, and too fast - Need for Speed has actually managed to get back on their game in this respect to some degree, but the Forza Horizon series has always been a difficult place to find paved-technical roads.

But the problem is that NFS got very stale in it's latest games. I got bored of Payback so much I played it only ONCE, unlike other games where I devoted more time to them. Forza was a bit more entertaining because it wasn't story-based (and I do happen to enjoy racing games a lot, but I prefer them when the story doesn't eat up the entire game).

Anyone have any experience with a 2002 Land Rover Discovery? I’ve been car shopping and found one in my budget; although I don’t intend on buying it I am curious about the car. So far I’ve heard they get mediocre gas mileage and are way better at off roading than I need.

Expect moderately high maintenance (in line with any luxury German vehicle), expect to be impressed by the vehicles off-road capabilities.

On a slightly related note (mostly because its a good watch), The Smoking Tyre did an off-road trail in a new Range Rover Velar with stock road tyres and pressures. It ate up everything you could reasonably expect it to:

It did deactivate 4wd at one point, my guess is that the vehicle isn't rated for continuous trail use to the extent that they put it through under the temperatures etc they did it in. But its better for an electronic safety cutoff to occur than for something to be mechanically damaged I guess.
My understanding is that these 4wd cutoffs are very common in most small to mid-size SUV vehicles. With limp home mode being activated in most brands at far lighter usage than the RR in this video.

With it being RWD-based, it is not limp home mode, but wait-to-be-towed mode.

Well, all they had to do was turn it off and leave it to cool down for 5 mins and the vehicle was absolutely fine for the rest of the journey and back in 4wd mode.

My dad had a '95 and currently has an '04. They're amazing vehicles to use, but be prepared to spend its own market value every year on maintenance, and make sure you can park it somewhere you don't mind coating in an even layer of oil. If they're not leaking oil it's because they don't have any. My dad has had other Disco owners come up to him and start by asking what warning lights are on, to which he proudly responds with "just one but I know what it is."

If you can afford that, there's no better vehicle for the job.
