They do know these cars are fast and powerful, but they also want to impress others. They want to show the society how wealthy they are, want to have a more expensive car than their neighbors (proven to be a major factor for many people, no matter how rich they are) and want to be more respected and feared on the road - not everyone wants to mess with a huge vehicle that's probably driven by someone wealthy and powerful.

Why is it always the germans? They are big car manafacturers, but you don't see toyota and honda in these scandals

The Japanese don't have as much of a push for (honest or dishonest) innovation.

On the one hand, I understand your point, but equally, they aren't the only ones.

    Looking towards Asia you have
    Looking towards America
    • Ford have a long history of scandalous behaviour (Paying off families of dead customers rather than recalling vehicles [was ages ago though])
    • Ford not fitting Mustangs outside of the US with key safety equipment because they though they weren't going to get crash tested.
    • Harley Davidson were cheating emissions (from memory they were using super lean fuel mixtures, then getting dealers to swap the fuel out on delivery, or something to that effect)

So German auto makers aren't the only ones, my guess would be that they have spent the last decade pushing their luck. They try one thing, don't get caught, try another, still don't get caught, and before they know it they are doing all sorts. Now that they got caught for one thing, they are under increased scrutiny due to investigations into their companies, which may have highlighted other potential scandals that are now also being investigated.

Even with the N treatment, the "Fastback" looks very jacked for me.

Didn't know they were offering one. There is something very appealing about aspects of that design to me, but they haven't quite nailed it. Perhaps bringing the rear window down a bit further, or even splitting it to have the lip in the middle Honda style. Or even removing the lip entirely and replacing it with rear window?

I think it looks ok though, but ofc its impossible to really tell until I have seen it irl.

It's really just the body shape that they call a Fastback that bothers me. I would prefer the hatchback, looks more appealing in it's shape.

This is a super sloppy edit, but I think it kinda shows the direction I wish they had explored

It actually looks a bit better than the official body shape, believe it or not.

Maybe because Hyundai's design team is starting to weaken in the few years.
    --- Post updated ---

Somehow, applying a similar design from the i30 Fastback on something like the A-Class Sedan actually doesn't look too bad.

Yeah meant mostly emissions, completely forgot about Hyundai and Kia :p
Yeah I suppose they are all doing it, just the Germans are under scrutiny.

Honestly, I don't really see it looking like a C-Class Coupe.

It now entered the hell dimension of car designs.

Also, the Q2 got the SQ treatment recently.
