Most people can't afford a car period. It is not getting the car part but its insurance, gas, and maintenance. And especially an NSX which is a lot more costly than say a 90's Corrola.
The new NSX STARTS at 156k. Thats well beyond affordability for probably 95% of people. --- Post updated --- Probably most people 30+ can buy/finance/lease a base model ILX, which with a stick is a pretty good car.
Statistics would suggest that yeah, 90% or more of the US could indeed not afford this car, particularly when you consider America has such a massive class imbalance. 200000 dollars is a vast sum of money unobtainable to almost all. Did you know, 7% of the population of the united states owns 70% of the wealth? Between 13 and 33% of the united states lives in poverty (varies, hard to get estimates on) and over 50% qualify as "low income". How do you expect them to own a $200000 sports car
Why do buses have low revving engines? Before you say diesel blah blah blah.. Car engines rev to 5000RPM ish diesel as well. But a bus engine of similar size, only to 2500! Eg. Cummins ISBe 4cyl is 3.9L and maxes out at 220hp. 3.0L V6 Diesel turbos from BMW, Jaguar and the rest come with around 270-300hp. They are economical as well, (not sure if it is on the same level as a Cummins tho). But surely it would be more economical to have say 3.5L diesel engine revving to say 4000RPM instead of a 7L revving to 2000RPM. Besides, it's only going to go to that redline under kickdown, a relatively rare scenario for buses! (if the bus engine is suitably powered).
Because the engine's pistons are huge and the inertia they generate would shake violently at over 3k --- Post updated --- Fun fact: if you have no debt an $10 in your pocket, you're richer than the average american. See the point the guy's making?
I'd say 5/6s of your yearly salary is a good cut-off point for spending on cars while having such a high income. With the NSX being 2-seat, you probably need another car, so I'd say the income needed to have both is in the top 2%-1% mark.
God, I ordered shocks 5 months ago and they are yet to arrive. BMW is getting wheels though, so thats good.
Wealth and income aren't the same. You can have two people with a similar income, but one is negative due to debt and not owning a house or car, while the other has a house, a car and lives on around the same level, yet is much higher in statistics. --- Post updated --- Wow. Daewoo. So unusual. /s
Actually wait, wasnt this also the same kid that thought it was normal to get a 30000 dollar plus car from their parents as a first car. No wonder they're so out of touch on whether someone is joking over not being able to afford a 200000 dollar car that's most suited to bring a second car
Some people in the US lease cars for a rediculously low amount of money per month. But seriously, don’t get anything too nice for a first car. You will crash it, it will break, and you are broke to start with. Not a good strategy.
If you want a starter car I highly recommend the Chevrolet Cavalier, Chevrolet knew who would be buying this car when they built it. They knew that new drivers would abuse it by rev dumping and generally driving it to hell and back. They made the engine virtually indestructible by giving it so little power that it would not rev hard enough to do any serious damage or get hot. Pretty much the Pessima irl.
