Could've made a meshslap joke there. Honestly, I wouldn't mind it too much if they DIDN'T call it the Supra. Otherwise, you're giving people high expectations of how the car could be, depending on how much nostalgia the name holds.
I wish they had just put a bigger engine in the 86, given it fatter tires and a mild facelift, and called that the Supra.
They could've gave it the retro-style treatment (as in making it look more like the MK4 instead of the FT-1), use the modern equivalent of the 2JZ as the car's engine, and basically give it a small amount of trims. It'd also need to be at a reasonable and decent price so more people are able to afford it.
Retro doesn't really work out theses days. The styling can be a bit..off. And the Mk4 wasn't really looking like a traditional Supra from the years before. It was a departure from the stealtiness of the Mk 3, which also looks coll to me.
The MK3 and MK4 were the only Supras (the other 2 were Celica variants) currently. Also, retro style can and does work. See the 2018 A118 and S195 Mustang for yourself.
Well, then define "retro" in the Supra's case. I'm still confused as to what kind of inspiration you are taking this "retro" from. Mk.3? Mk.4?
I'm saying that it should've taken the retro-style route, not that it actually has. That's why I mentioned the MK4 to begin with in the post. This new "Supra" is simply a production model FT-1 body sitting on a Z4.
Personally, I actually don't mind how it looks right now. And I still don't understand what you mean by "retro route." I mean, for one thing, what makes a Supra visually a Supra?
Well, what makes this car scream out "Supra!" then? It's not even a full-on Toyota, as it's based off the Z4. Also, the "retro route" to put it in simple terms - modernizing a old design.
Hey, never argued over wheter it should be called a "Supra."I said the design looks nice. As to it being called a Supra... well, if we got an inline six made by Toyota, I would maybe call it a "Supra".
You did ask what makes a Supra a Supra specifically though. The design's alright, nothing too bad but nothing too great either. My real grudge is that it's called a Supra to begin with.
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2019-detroit-auto-show-preview/ So, there's a few things to note: XT6 is one of the models ready to be shown, and is a MDX/RX-L/QX60 competitor GAC is making a return to the Detroit Auto Show The Telluride is finally going to be shown in stock form There is a possibility of a new EV concept car from Nissan, though it's currently unclear of what it really is. VW will finally expose to us the upcoming Passat.
when I bought my bronco March of last year, it was nearly impossible to find anything older than say 93' now all the 80-86s and 87-91s are popping up, there are a bunch of 87-91 broncos in my area that are now going for somewhere between 10-15+k on average, not long ago 5-6k was a lot for one, the 80-86 's are worth slightly more but not as many for sale at the moment
Nice. If you have any electrical knowledge then I would suggest wiring up a switch to that fuse. That way you could deactivate the ABS from inside the cabin and do what should have been done from the factory.
Your level of misunderstanding is frankly hilarious --- Post updated --- And here's why. Because this isn't the case --- Post updated --- The z4 and supra share a lot of engineering on a common platform, but don't directly share parts besides the engine/gearbox and little bits like brakes. They don't literally share a common chassis, and the chassis was engineered by Toyota. Both the z4 and supra are basically a Toyota chassis with a BMW engine plopped in it, the z4 chassis is then drastically tweaked for the convertible rigidity. This whole "it's just a BMW" is not true. By the same logic @Fenneko is using, the GT86 is just a Subaru
Those two do actually share a chassis and a lot else. It's just like my "Ford Escort", which is actually a Mazda Protege/Familia with a Ford CVH engine and gearbox, which apparently had to be modified to fit Mazda's engine mounting setup; the result being that there are only 2-3 other Ford engines which will fit this car without major fabrication and if you want a more powerful swap then you're in the Mazda engine family.
