I wouldn't either. This is why we need liftbacks and wagons. Plus, you honestly think a two-row crossover like the Edge has enough room in the back for a dog?
Speaking from personal experience, a Hyundai Veloster can fit a Golden Retriever comfortably in the cargo area. So yes, it does.
My dad would only ever let the dogs be in the boot on top of flattened cardboard boxes, didn't want them getting the car dirty. But with a Xara Picasso, and currently an I40, its not like they were locked in a trunk, there are windows and lots of space back there. Edit: Just crossed my mind that not everyone will know what a Xara Picasso is, they were very common in Europe, and still are to some extent.
"Crossover-hatches" are pretty stupid if you ask me... asides from the AMC Eagle Kammback (although it depends how you would interpret the type of car as), that one gets a pass. That includes cars like the new Prius c, Ka/Focus/Fiesta Active, and Streetwise.
Not saying all cars Ford has needs to scrap it, but I'm just saying the Escape should've tried to be like it's own thing and have a more conventional fascia. Well, if that what they tried to do with the Escape, they failed horribly then. Also, the idea of a cute design on such a SUV like the Escape sounds pretty childish and stupid in my opinion.
Thats sad, I quite like the looks of the current generation Ford Escape. Had more of a boxy yet sporty look, the 2020 model looks horrendous.
On the other hand, the Kuga isn't looking so bad. Basically the same, but less Disney's Cars, and more... German looking, I guess? (with the bumper vents etc) Its kinda like an old Imprezza hatchback on stilts.
