apparently the most stolen car in New Zealand is this... like what makes this car so appealing to thieves?
I wouldn't decide which car you're gonna buy based solely on which one is stolen less. Usually the most stolen cars aren't stolen for any special reason besides them being extremely common. The more of them that are out there the more are gonna be stolen. For instance, the most stolen vehicle in the U.S. for a while was the F150 (still might be), and the best selling vehicle in the U.S. was also (and still might be) The F150.
true but then with New Zealand's one its down to how secure the car is or how appealing it is to thieves. (I might be completely wrong this is only my opinion.)
The current most stolen car in the United States is the Honda Accord. In 2013, 53,995 Accords were stolen.
Compare those numbers & Australian thefts were over 2 years as opposed the American 1 year. Holy shit. Well played American car thieves
We have over 10 times as many people as Australia, of course there are more car thefts. Crime rates are also just plain higher in america for some reason. I'll leave speculating as to why to other people.
Less than half of the population of Australia, but still get almost as much thefts on a single model. what a beautiful country ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (imported from here)
My bro had a Yamaha R1 which was stolen in Australia, He got a phone call about 7 years later that it had been found in Bulgaria. As seized property of a drug lord. Other vehicles and documents found in them had Aussie paperwork so they checked all the vehicle numbers back to Australia. I can't remember which government department it was that contacted him, but they asked if he wanted it back, they said it looked pretty rough though and he had long since spent the insurance money on another bike. It probably went to Auction and is still in Bulgaria. You never know where a stolen vehicle will end up.
My friend's dad's MK2 Escort got stolen a few years ago from their yard and it was found the next day like 400 meters away from their house. The driver's door lock and ignition switch were destroyed and the door was damaged. They've had it for quite a while and still have it but imo the paintjob is quite poor. The body is white but it's quite poorly painted and black paint is peeling off the bumpers, door handles etc. But it has some engine upgrades and pretty much a straight pipe.
Dad had a new-ish T140 Corona wagon that was nicked from a shopping centre carpark. This was before keyless entry was a common thing. We called the police, took a taxi home, whatever. We found it a week later in the same carpark with scuff marks around the top of the driver's door. Only car of ours that was ever stolen.
My mums pink Hyundai Excel was stolen in 2000, It was annoying at first but turned out to be a blessing, we got a VS Commodore wagon. Which in 2000 that was the equivalent to a VE wagon.
