I got it from a line in top gear "The volthead has overtaken the petrol head." In the Tesla Roadster episode.
A few days ago I mentioned that the Ford Pinto might make a good cheap street build, given that, according to Old Cars Price Report, you could still get one in good condition for a little over $3K. I must issue a correction to that post. Since then I have discovered that Old Cars Price Report is an utter trashbag source, and that the prices it gives for "#1" condition (i.e. literally perfect in every way, doesn't get driven at all except off and back on the trailer at shows) are often more accurate for "#4" condition (i.e. very ratty but at least theoretically driveable or close to it). A thoroughly beat 4-cylinder Pinto in urgent need of a new head gasket is $7500 now, not even joking. Even worse, it's been that way since before that whole thing that happened from 2020-22 that I'm not allowed to talk about. Meaning, they didn't just miss the boat, they're actually chronically terrible at keeping track of the prices cars sell for. (And also, any car that could even potentially be fun to drive sells for chronically terrible prices now. Even the ones nobody wants.)
Which “extinct” car marque do you wish still existed? I wish either Pontiac, AMC, or Hudson still existed.
Maybe the Rover and MG group (I know MG exists but the Chinese have taken over it). Is there a British manufacturer that is not owned by a foreign company or takes parts from it? If there isn't then that's upsetting, one century we had a load of countries and we're being taken over by them.
Pontiac, without a moment's hesitation. It makes me physically angry that they got canned while Buick got to survive. That, in and of itself, was a dreadful harbinger of the slow-motion train wreck that was about to befall car culture and the new-car market in particular.
It's both annoying and depressing to me that Pontiac made cool cars until it's death, and Buick... well... they haven't made a good car since this thing. Every car they sell now is dreadful, reminds me of Mitsubishi. And every other company nowadays... I'd like to see Hudson make a comeback in the present with luxury cars styled after their old cars. Won't happen, but I'd love to see it.
Buick, one of the most American car brands ever (and GM’s oldest marque), survived the Recession because of China. bruh
bro I can't believe they killed off oakland and marquette, but kept pontiac around like WTF it was literally just a companion marque to oakland
