Perhaps he's unaware that higher number != better...

Granted, if he had sold the 280X for a 780Ti, it would be slightly more understandable.

Hi, i need some advice. I built a very budget pc for my friend, just for his work, to open some office documents, and make some projects, but it lags sometimes like hell. Video lags, MS Word lags, and other progs freezes sometimes.. Here's the specs: Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M LX3, Processor - AMD FX 8300, Graphics - Gigabyte GeForce GT 730 2048MB, RAM - Goodram DDR3-1600 4096MB PC3-12800 Play Red, Power - Aerocool VX-400 400W.

I was thinking it is overheating, because of using stock cpu fan, and old metal case from year 2005 without any fans, but average cpu temperature is 40-45c.

What version of Windows? And check if 32- or 64-bit. I think it may be a virus.

Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. I built this PC a week ago, I don't think it is a virus, maybe bios settings, or bios itself. Also, it is possible, that some of the components are incompatible?

I doubt BIOS. Those kinds of settings shouldn't cause things like this, unless you didn't set it up correctly when you built it.
Highly unlikely. Nowadays, if it goes together, it works (except with chipset versions and servers).

Open up task manager, in the processes tab you will see tabs labeled CPU, Memory, Disk, Network. if any of those have 100% usage click the tab and it will show you which program is causing that specific part to run maxed. IMO, I think you're either running out of memory or you have high disk usage, after first installing windows, windows will run WinSAT *windows self assessment* it will typicaly max your HDD out for a while until it finishes, then everything will go back to normal.

No. AMD's driver updates are horrible. It's incredibly noisy and I have had some GPU crashes.
Going back to Nvidia. 770 is the same price, maybe a 960. I've had enough with AMD.

Benchmarks point out the 770 and 280X should perform similarly. And I only have one 1080p screen, so I don't care about the extra 1 GB on the 280X..

300-series cards are more stable than their 200-series counterparts. But that's ok, you like Nvidia. I get it. I wish you luck with your 770.

I could spend 15 minutes rambling on how you bought AMD's equivalent to Zotac (eww, Sapphire), but I won't, it would waste my time.

Yes, thats a great price. They normally sell for easily $60 each at least in used condition.

Thanks. He finds parts for insane prices. He apparently got one of the 7850s for $20.

Yeah, could be. I like the way how Nvidia delivers updates, plus I'd be better off with a blower-cooler card, so that the heat gets blown out of my -kinda- small case.
I've had perfect experiences with Nvidia in the past, so I'm returning to the green camp. The 280X and 770 are equal in terms of performance on 1080p. And the prices are the same. (150 Euros). So why not?
And please, explain to me why Sapphire & Zotac are bad. I'd like to know, seriously.

Thanks. I was just looking at MSI and EVGA cards.
    Anyone had experience with PNY?

They're seen as just generally unreliable and unstable cards. Both brands are their chipset OEM's. Both teams have 2 (technically 3) OEM manufactures. Nvidia has: EVGA, PNY, and Zotac as OEM's. AMD has: XFX, Sapphire/VisionTek/HIS, and PowerColor.

They aren't so bad anymore, but it used to be if you needed the cheap option on a high end card (GTX 500 series, HD6000 series), you bought a Zotac or SaphTekIS card. That stigma has just stuck with them. Granted, I threw a Zotac GTX 560 in my friends cobbled together rig and it seems to be fine, needs a new case though.

    Thanks!
Before the R9 280X I had a ZOTAC GTX 580 AMP!. With a blower style cooler. Was a great card without any problems. Turns out I was lucky ;)
