I remember reading about the battery recall. Not sure if they're still doing it, but I'll keep that in mind. A free battery would be nice.
Did i hear ANCIENT? imma dump a few pics of my ancient stuff. show you whats really ancient (middle pic is a 2gb 50 pin scsi drive. my favorite)
Okay, even if it did reach overheat temps why didn't it throttle to prevent damage? I use my laptop in bed all the time. Also this keyboard sucks. It's so mushy.
I was kinda exaggerating there, since the processor came out in like 2013 or something, way before the game. --- Post updated --- No idea. Not particularly sure I want to fix it, also did have some mobo problems so it's not completely "perfectly fine" Of course when it broke in the past my dad insisted on taking it to a computer shop, seemed a bit dodgy as well. I don't even car about that computer anymore. It was just annoying because it kept having problems in the past.

Helped my cousin upgrade his pc (I5 6600k, 16gigs, gtx 1060 and a 480gb ssd) he gave me his old, I5 2500k, 32gigs of Corsair Dominator ram (looks like one stick is dead though ), Asus P8Z77 and GTX 660TI. 16gigs of that ram is now in my PC. Edit. The stick works, 32 gigs of ram! Unnecessary but it enlarges my epenis.
My T420 arrived today. No passwords set, seems to be working fine. No pics because I have nowhere suitable to photograph it. @Eastham The battery I have isn't affected by the recall.
I'm honestly thinking about buying a Thinkpad.. Don't really know anything about them right now but I'll search up. The design looks very old but I kinda like it.
Here's something to note: Apparently, Windows 10 isn't supported on these because Intel isn't supporting Windows 10 on 2nd Gen Core series CPUs. http://www.intel.eu/content/www/eu/en/support/processors/000006105.html Some people have it running fine, others have issues with some features. I'm probably going to stick with Windows 7 on mine.
I won't worry about that, the only thing I use Windows 10 on is my main rig, because of DirectX 12. I use Ubuntu and Windows 7 on all my other PCs.
Decided to run Memtest to test this ram, turns out one of the sticks are actually bad. Still, free 16GB of ram, I ain't complaining. Also I'm running windows 10 on my E420 with no problem, startup has a long black screen due to the ATI chipset though that's a driver problem.
Is that part of a Windows XP Pro COA stuck on your wall? Although the seller of my T420 already installed and updated Windows 7, I'm likely to be reinstalling it myself to remove all traces of the programs he pre-installed. I don't need iTunes, Chrome, Skype, WinRAR, etc. on there. I'll install what I want.
Yup! From an old Elonex PC I bought new old stock a while ago. My walls are overdue painting so I just stick random things over holes and cracks.
My T420 seems fine, although after examining it more closely, I noticed the following: A pressure mark on the screen about the size of the TrackPoint but a little smaller located just under the "(TM)" of the CPU Type in the BIOS. A chunk of plastic is missing above the always on USB port. The LCD bezel wasn't clipped in properly in the bottom right corner near the hinge. I clipped it back together but there's a slight gap. One of the battery latches on the side near the charging port is broken. I can pull/shake the battery out a bit. It looks like it can disconnect the power too (I didn't try this with it switched on). The Ultrabay lock is missing. The blanking plate for the modem port is missing. The listing said it has a modem port though. It's a slight annoyance, but not enough to send the whole machine back. :-/ You can actually see the missing lock and broken plastic in the listing pictures below (How did I miss those?):
