Well the graphical fidelity of the game doesn't get higher when running in windowed and it doesn't start using less powerful hardware. The I5 2500k and GTX970 are more than happy to play the game smoothly in full screen, so it will likely be something software based, whether that be BeamNG or something else I can't say I have checked. When running in windowed mode the game actually has marginly less pixels to push. --- Post updated --- Following current trends in 2 years time you will probably see between 5-20% performance increase. With processing power a 5-20% increase is not going to make a massively noticeable difference, since drawing 5-20% more stuff to the screen may not make a game look much better than it does now (since it will be used to add ever smaller details), or maybe that extra 5-20% will be spent on a slightly more performance hungry shader. To make a game look twice as good as now using current algorithms will require more than twice the current processing power. Perhaps newer algorithms will make a bigger difference in that time space. But who knows, maybe some breakthrough will be made and passed on to the consumer within the next 2 years. However CPU/GPU development cycles are longer than 2 years so I doubt it. The used market essentially follows the first hand market but delayed x number of years based on how old you are wanting to go, either way you can already see what the next 2 years has in store. However software that can more effectively make use of that processing power will appear over time, it will be interesting to see which improves fastest, the software or hardware and which hits a wall first.
Just a quick PSA. Another one of my friends fell for one of these scams, if you see a "new" GTX 750TI or similar GTX card like the one below don't buy them, they're fake, basically 8800GT's with modified firmware to trick Windows into displaying it as a GTX card.
Wow, didn't realise that scam was still going. Even more surprised to see that the seller has great ebay feedback, presumably they must be offering refunds to people who notice in exchange for good feedback?
Same. I don't know, I think the seller sells some legit items as well, maybe he doesn't know these are fake cards?
Exactly, you don't get much slowdown from software development, but what you can have in two years is more cores from used HEDT platform, which at least I can't see moving much on used market as of now, but when Intel brings new HEDT platform that is probably increasing amount of used HEDT CPU's and motherboards on market. Socket 2011 has been quite few years already so new will render all that old. despite they work just fine and give nice upgrade path from current consumer systems. I'm of course focusing everything on BeamNG, what else you can do with computer?
Oh weird, I haven't seen those sold on ebay before. I've seen those sold on Aliexpress for dirt cheap, some of them are pretty convincing looking while a lot are pretty bad. They are always mixed in between real GPUs there as well so its really hard to know. On a side note its pretty funny how they use the original nvidia logo from ages ago on the fans.
So after some encouragement from a lecturer I decided to try and run my university projects with source management rather than zip files with version numbers stored on OneDrive. I have used GitHub before but the desktop application was a bit flaky and frankly I didn't have a good time with it, most likely because it was the first time I had tried to use it. So I decided to try out GitLab since they offer private repositories on their free tier which is pretty useful for me (afaik GitHub does offer this to students) and I have to say that it is fairly nice from my naive point of view. I am using GitKracken as a desktop client mainly because I like gui's a lot more than command lines and while it took a bit of time to set up after using it for a day the system works pretty well. Then when the project is "finished" (aka submitted) I can make it public and link it in to portfolio stuff. One issue I am having is that Visual Studio breaks the entire system. So I have to copy the local copy to a seperate folder before working on it then copy the files back onto the local copy before committing and pushing online. But that is ok I guess
I read earlier today on another forum someone asking if it would be worthwhile to upgrade from 4GB of ram to 8MB of ram. 8MB! I'm sure they meant 8GB of ram. I hope. Because If not, I would stick to those 4 GB of ram.
Hey, I have a website! Its not finished but there is enough stuff in there for you to get the gist. The whole thing is hand built in Notepad++. I have avoided javascript and jQuery wherever possible, as such the only javascript (outside of youtube embeds?) is for the year in the footer. There is also no jQuery. All plain HTML and CSS. It validates pretty nicely and the site will continue to work even with all the CSS stripped out. The reason for all this is to make it lightweight and as compatible as possible while still trying to achieve something that looks somewhat modern. alwyn.tech Any constructive thoughts or feedback would be awesome.
On phone: I think the front page could look a bit less full, you get a wall of your projects on your screen, without a introduction. It also seems your about me page is empty. The design itself look good IMO, and it is quite fast
It's a good start. I think something that I would add is a comments thing for your projects. Just a suggestion.
Yeah, the about me page hasn't been worked on yet. Which orientation are you talking about (landscape/portrait) just so I know which you think is too full and/or which you think is the worst offender --- Post updated --- Yeah, I agree that adding a description within each project is needed. Major oversight on my behalf, I had thought about that but had forgotten about it xD
Portrait, I would suggest to add a bigger welcome message so you get to see that first before scrolling down to see the projects
On the mobile version the welcome message is now bigger, the rest of the fonts have been increased on the front page, there are also bigger gaps in between each project. Do you think it is now any better? I might also be tempted to figure out some way to turn the project list on the projects page into something that is off screen and slides onto the screen when the user presses a button.
this is ridiculously silly. I recommend you read, so you can consider how freaking stupid some people are. Article
Huh... I actually prefer women who have Android phones. It makes them spontaneous. Then again... Current girlfriend has an iPhone, so...
I care little for knowledge of their phone. Though only person I can refer to as an ex I suppose used a Windows phone like I did at the time, he also partook in my hatred of Apple devices
