Honestly, I have absolutely no idea. - - - Updated - - - i5 4690K - GTX 970 here, nice 60 fps on grid map, 50+ on other maps and it's all maxed out. T75 still gets 40+. At 1080p. And I could get better performance by overclocking.
So now that my Desktop has been infected by a pesky virus and in-validated my windows and basically ground the computer to a halt, my laptop now my main PC. Now, being my main PC, I installed the thing that I use most on my PC, BeamNG, and oh dear... I get around 15-20FPS with the pickup and the only car I can run smoothly is the Pigeon, still at only 25ish FPS if that, and the T-65 is running at 8-9FPS and the T-75 crashes my game completely. I need that fucking virus rid of and get back to 60 on everything.
After a quick google search and a little bit of reading, I found out that reinstalling your Windows might work. The guy that had this problem got it too work again, so it might work for you, can't guarentee anything though.
It could have stolen your windows key. Try reinstalling windows and if you have issues you may be able to contact Microsoft and get things fixed for you if you have proof of ownership of the copy of Windows. Otherwise you could just reformat the thing and put Linux on there. Many of your games may work on Linux and the internet will work just like on windows. If you want it to look like windows then both Linux Mint and Zorin OS have a windows layout. If you fancy something else then Ubuntu is pretty easy to use too. Most of the main distributions are easy to use. - - - Updated - - - I would go for a cheaper mouse and keyboard...
Is it possible to overclock and Intel i5 4460 and/or a Nvidia GTX 750? And would doing that give a noticable performance boost?
4460 isn't a K version so it's not unlocked, so no overclock. However, I overclocked my 750 Ti to 1500Mhz and got a nice boost in performance. You can achieve this with Afterburner, increase the core frequency until it either crashes or doesn't boost up to that speed. I'm pretty sure you can't change the voltage on that card, but if you got silicon lottery winner like I did, it will do 1500+
Gonna try and run it at 1250 MHZ. Stress test will be some GTA V, best testing game I have. --edit-- 1400MHZ, 1500MHZ boost GTA V crashed, said something about the initialisation not working properly, don't think that has anything to do with the card though. Might try 1450MHZ, but I don't wanna go higher than that. --edit 2-- Entering fullscreen mode causes GTA V to crash, great. --edit 3--(last one, I swear) Turning vsync of was what killed the game, could've found that out earlier.
It says, when you go into the Control panel, the windows status is "unavailable". It is connected to the internet but only briefly to check it and it has the Windows is not registered in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I don't know if it is a legitimate background though, it could be just hiding the fact that is is actually activated and trying to make you purchase a new one and type it in so it can steal that one, most likely though, I'm screwed. Now, with Linux, I know some people on this forum aren't big fans of Linux, not naming any, but I have tried Ubuntu on my laptop and to be perfectly honest, I wasn't impressed. It wasn't that fast, even though it was running on a DVD. I wanted to try Mint but I CBA with my desktop so i tried it on my laptop and my GPU was not supported with Mint, not sure with my desktop but I'm sure it will be compatible. I'm going to check the Steam list and see what works out of my games, as long as I have GTA, BeamNG and ETS2 I should be fine. I probably just pull of the school work and do a fresh windows install which won't be fun when you have 500GBs worth of game to download...
Ubuntu is by far the slowest distro out there, definitely slower than windows. Slower still from a DVD GTA, no way to play on linux. BeamNG, cant be installed via steam on linux. Can be copied from a windows machine and run under WINE though.
Will running under WINE affect performance? Like FPS performance? I can't lose the butter-smooth 60FPS I have now, I have been spoiled rotten by it. I will be pulling of my essential files from a Mint CD. What Linux would you recommend for everyday use?
Just made my PC crash. Knew that a 500MHZ overclock coudn't work. I got a few artifacts in GTA V, wanted to quit, but than it just froze. Back to normal settings, since I do wanna keep this alive. There's a reason why Nvidia tells you when you can and can't overclock your card. Didn't think I could get much out of this 750 anyways.
I heard Mint was quite a good one and I would be using it on my laptop if it had support for my video card. Again, I have heard you mention about Crunchbag before, along with some others, being a newbie however I will be downloading Mint and putting it on a DVD tomorrow. Another question, I know that using Windows files through WINE will be slower, but how much slower, especially in things like games. If I plan to use Linux as a OS, what are the drawbacks? I might still have a Windows install just for games if some of them don't run, such as rFactor and GTLegends.
Locked multiplier. You are very much limited in what overclocking potential you have on a chip with a locked multiplier. For overclocking you need a K model, these are unlocked.
There's a way to overclock non k intel cpus, but you need, as far as I've heard, an asus motherboard a various other specific things. Or, to say it short, no.
Because of how hot it is I'm trying to reduce the heat output of my PC. I lowered the CPU to 4.2GHz and reduced the voltage along with a couple other things which has helped but I want a way to manually switch between two profiles. One that runs maybe 3.5GHz with a low voltage and one that runs about 4.4GHz for gaming and stuff.
