my craptop is having a rough day... I was using it for work, and all of a sudden the . (period) key appeared to be stuck, as it was repeating .'s constantly, in any text entry field I would click to. So i tried to shut it down and it wouldnt shut down, so I just hekd the power key till it hard shut off. Now, it says Windows failed to start properly and needs to do the startup repair or some shit, but it sits there for a while saying "windows is repairing startup files" or something, and after a while it will eventually bring me to the system restore with the critical update restore points. When I choose one, it says Initializing.....then nothing.......then some huge error pops up. When I restart, I can F2 or F4, one is setup and one is System Restore, they dont seem to work. Is my hard drive shot? Something is wrong here and I have no way of figuring out what could be the culprit. Any ideas? Need additional information? Sucks, as it is my only way of actually working unless I use an old ass HP Compaq desktop POS with a pentium that is stuck at 100% CPU usage and the fans blow insanely loud all fuqing day.
I'll be damned, it actually works. Old (unfortunately a reference) HD 5770, assumed it was totally dead. (imported from here) Edit: Makes GTA 5 look like a light show, so yeah its artifacting unfortunately, oh well its what i expected.
DANG, the new iris pro graphics are seriously powerful for an IGPU (for reference, my intel hd 2500 barley manages 15-25 fps in gta v at 800x600 with everything else at lowest possible settings)
Wow. That's actually amazing, nearly as powerful as a GTX 750. It's just too bad they'll go to waste in high end, near $300 CPU's nobody will buy without a more powerful GPU. If we get those on a budget Skylake CPU, however, like an i3... Could make for a very interesting HTPC.
Most interesting though is that the iGPUs have almost double the min fps of the other cards and even the 750. Wonder why that would be?
Some new goodies. The SSD is for my laptop as it currently has a low-end 5400RPM that is the definition of frustation. I plan to clone the HDD to the SSD (I reverted the Laptop state to factory yesterday). I would prefer to start from a clean Windows installation (so that I don't have to deal with the Toshiba stuff), but I don't want to mess with the drivers stuff :| edit:
cpu bottleneck on the other cards, the intel igpu's have high end i5's and i7's, while everything else (that's not an amd apu) has an anthlon cpu
Before: One trip to MicroCenter and $90 later... After: NZXT S340 Blue/Black. I love it. Not my H440, but a damn good substitute.
I really need a good case. My current case is M-ATX, the Aerocool Dead Silence one I have in my signature, and I can't overclock my 4690K, even if I can't anyway because #StockIntelHeatsinkmasterrace but I could get a Hyper 212 if I wanted when, and if, I get a new case + motherboard. Any recommendations? I need a cheap MOBO and Case that are ATX. I'm doing this on one of the school computers BTW, going to try and get BeamNG running on one of the computers. This one has a i3-4130 so it should be possible on low settings, wish me luck!
For you cooler, go to Best Buy (assuming you don't have a Fry's near you) and show them this http://www.frys.com/product/7545356 . They'll price match it and now you have a $100+ cooler for $49.
Motherboard: Any Z97 board will be fine. If you want a really cheap ATX board, the ASUS Z97-P (£60) is pretty good, but has limited features (no CFX/SLI support, for example). For a bit more, the MSI Z97 PC MATE (£65) and Z97 Guard-Pro (£72) offer more features (no SLI support, but they do support CFX). I have no idea what the difference between these two is, but I'm assuming the Guard-Pro has better power delivery from the larger heatsinks. If you want a fancy looking board and don't mind spending a bit more, or just want to be able to actually OC without fear of blowing your VRMs, the MSI Z97-Gaming 3 (£85) is a good option. If you want an SLI capable board for future proofing, the MSI Z97S SLI Krait (£90) is one of the cheapest boards with SLI support, and also looks absolutely gorgeous. The case is mostly pick whatever you like. A bunch of good cheap cases: NZXT Source 210 Elite (£36): Simple, clean looks, decent airflow, front USB 3, good build quality, all-round great budget case. No modular drive bays, but it's cheap. Corsair SPEC-01 (£42): Corsair's entry level case, but still a great case with good airflow, modular drive bays (although only one is included, so only 3 3.5" drives can be installed), and some cable management room behind the motherboard tray. Build quality, just what you'd expect from Corsair, very solid. Also has a large window to stare at your hardware. NZXT Phantom 240 (£50): If you like the out-of-a-sci-fi-movie sort of look, it's a great case with good airflow, modular drive bays allowing for up to 6 3.5" drives, and some room for routing cables behind the motherboard tray. LOTS of plastic, but should be just as solid as its more expensive Phantom counterparts. Fractal Design Define S (£60): A cheaper version of the extremely popular Define R series. It looks pretty much the same, and it is pretty much the same, with a bunch less features (front panel doesn't open for example). There are no drive bays, HDDs are mounted behind the motherboard tray (which extends all the way to the front). This provides great airflow and clean looks on the windowed version (£10 more), but you can only mount 3 3.5" drives. It does not support 5.25" ODDs at all either. Corsair 450D (£100): Alright, this one ain't cheap, but I just put it in here because god damn is it good. I have one. I've yet to see a better looking case. As for features, you get modular drive bays (again only one included, but can have up to 3 for 9 drives I think), amazing airflow (2 AF140s in the front, 1 AF120 in the back included), a huge window, very decent cable management room (I even managed to make it look clean with a non-modular PSU), and the very best of Corsair's build quality. The Obsidian series are their top-end cases, and it really shows. It's also an amazing case for liquid cooling. NZXT H440 (£90): Just like the 450D, it's not cheap but it's bloody good. You also get a huge window, good cable management room, great airflow, and excellent build quality. Doesn't have any 5.25" mounts, so no ODDs. The last two are actually high end cases, but I think buying a case you like is worth the money since you can keep it for many builds, and doesn't need to be replaced. Well, that ended up being WAY longer than I intended. I'm gonna start keeping these somewhere.
Anyone else here own a Phantom 410? If so have you ever experienced it make a hugely annoying buzzing sound that seems to be caused by the front panel. As soon as a i push the top of the panel on the front it goes totally silent, the buzzing seems to happen in sync with my water cooler fans causing me to think they may have been the cause at first however it seems more like the case is making the noise when they are at a certain range of rpm frequency, near idle. The case is only a few months old but its been doing it since new. When pushing on it there is a little bit of movement but all the clips are in perfect condition. Edit: It was infact an issue with my front radiator fan being loose as well as the case window which was really loose for whatever reaason. Tightened the fan screws as well as the window clips and now it sounds much better, almost totally silent at idle
Hue hue hue. Got my 21.5" 1080p Acer monitor today. It's setup with a 1440x900 monitor on both sides. Hue hue hue.
My screens are starting to flicker now and games are stuttering now too. It's all new, I'm not worried yet. I know that AMD's drivers are less than reliable, so I'll try updating them. If for some reason I'm running the latest version, I'm gonna start shopping for a new GPU. - - - Updated - - - Well, it's time to start looking at some alternatives for GPU's, my 7850 is done for. We're having blue screens now and the error codes are graphics hardware related. I found a nice MSi 7950 for $100. The listing is a month old so, if he still has it, I'm gonna try to talk him down some.
