I'd takes OSX over Windows 10 any day. OSX : http://www.techsourcehub.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-30-at-3.10.40-PM.png VS W10 : http://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/Windows-10-2.jpg OSX looks so nice and clean, whereas Windows 10 has a totally conflicting color pallete, and is a headache just to look at
come to the bright side, we have many DE's for you to try, give KDE a go! ;DDDDD https://www.kde.org/ LOOK AT THE BEAUTY OF FREEDOM: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=linux+desktop+environments&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch
That isnt stock windows 10... Plus those colour conflicts are within an application that nobody uses XD
Thanks for reinforcing my point. Valve games not only support linux but run very well, and that's a very good thing. The day every game can be played on Linux and AMD's Linux drivers don't suck will be a good day. OSX is a crap OS though. And you can forget about doing any serious gaming on it. Not to mention the PITA it is to run on anything not built by Apple. Worst thing about it IMO is Apple's concept of 'streamlining' the OS by hiding the advanced features from the user and making them hard to reach - not really designed to do anything technical. Windows may be a clusterfuck (especially with W10's settings/control panel mix) but it's an easily accessible clusterfuck. Also, that's Win10's technical preview - the actual release OS looks much cleaner, and got better with updates.
Please explain how Microsoft 'butchered' Windows 10. Final version is much cleaner, the search bar can be collapsed to a button or hidden entirely, multi-desktop button can be hidden too. Only bad thing is the new start menu doesn't allow for custom tiles (the Win8 program for custom tiles worked in the tech preview).
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Counter-Strike-Global-Offensive/issues Too bad it actually doesn't play well at all. I'm lucky to be able to use the UI... sometimes. recent segfaults: daniel_j@GodBox:~ > dmesg | grep -i csgo [1586789.921510] csgo_linux[11761]: segfault at 353764d0 ip 00000000353764d0 sp 00000000ffd8b14c error 15 [1656984.215209] csgo_linux[28471]: segfault at a ip 00000000f60ea7e6 sp 00000000f4f7022c error 6 in libnvidia-glcore.so.352.63[f50e9000+1724000] [2000786.262949] csgo_linux[7453]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 00000000ff98b58c error 14 in csgo_linux[8048000+1000] [2106305.904795] csgo_linux[30053]: segfault at 2 ip 00000000f60d57e6 sp 00000000f4f5b22c error 6 in libnvidia-glcore.so.352.63[f50d4000+1724000] [2112784.474466] csgo_linux[31711]: segfault at 0 ip 00000000f75e5770 sp 00000000ffb61078 error 4 in libc-2.19.so[f74b2000+1a8000] [2149854.662873] csgo_linux[6111]: segfault at 310aaad0 ip 00000000310aaad0 sp 00000000ffaa5a2c error 15 [2164518.712125] csgo_linux[10472]: segfault at 0 ip 00000000f343212b sp 00000000fff521b0 error 6 in libtier0_client.so[f341e000+29000] [2261587.202060] csgo_linux[5335]: segfault at 18 ip 00000000f06b5e9e sp 00000000ffae4b60 error 4 in materialsystem_client.so[f0640000+162000] [2428407.906445] csgo_linux[14332]: segfault at 14f52bb8 ip 0000000014f52bb8 sp 00000000ffab451c error 15 [2531684.981971] traps: csgo_linux[6534] trap bounds ip:e6e05932 sp:ffe90028 error:0 in client_client.so[e5e19000+1451000]
Sure will. As far as I can tell, it's now defaulted to the black/white theme. This already creates a huge contrast on its own with the start bar being black, and it's only added to with every window on your screen being white. Then there's that search bar in the taskbar that's just -- there. Something that I'd never even think of using. There's also features in Windows 10 that I'll never, ever use. Windows Store, Cortana, Modern Skype, Built in game capture or whatever that is, Xbox sharing stuff. I also value my privacy (as well as others) and do not agree whatsoever with the default settings. Then again, I don't have Snapchat because I don't agree with their terms of service either.
About 80 games from my steam library are on Linux. So I could totally make the move and have plenty of fun. But then there are the other 110 games in my steam library which I would also like to be able to play. As for windows I am running windows 7 on my desktop and 10 on my tablet. I don't intend to put Windows 10 on my desktop. Im hoping that the still fairly large Win7 user base will ensure that games will start supporting gpu api's such as Vulcan that will provide similar benefits that dx12 does. Since game developers and publishers will want to ensure that their games can run on as many computers as possible it may make sense to offer [it as well as] / [as opposed to] dx12. This will also in turn help out Linux a fair amount which I am all for. My general plan is to keep this Win 7 install going for as long as i can and then when it is no longer viable i will probably have to do some form of dual boot setup where I use some form of Linux as my primary OS and then use Windows on another partition only for when I want to play a game that isn't supported on Linux. I don't like the direction that Windows is going in, I am all for making things easier for all users (not just the power ones) but I am not ok with Microsoft taking control of my own system away from me, I am especially not going to pay for that luxury. Although I can get it for free through Uni so i wouldn't need to. I would still be pissed even with the option to disable the monitoring etc since I think it is a bit of a security risk, but I would be pissed at Microsoft while actually running Win 10 on my desktop. But since they are intent on ensuring that those things are nigh on impossible to do i won't be installing it and when convenient I shall re-evaluate all options and vote with my feet. @ the above bit I agree that OSX looks nicer than Win 10. OSX feels way more effortless in its style than Win10. But while looks are nice I personally find OSX a bit of a pain to use. But there are many Linux distros that I think look far nicer than Win10 as well.
Don't have much social media things unless you count Google+ The search bar has some problems that I don't like. Whenever you hover over it it spams you with current happenings in the world. I mean, I guess you could fix it by searching something? But it also is impossible to turn the search bar itself off.
Aha! I knew Win10 was the one that had that Cortana! First, this isn't Knight Rider. I don't want a computer that talks to me. Second, think about Microsoft for a second. Think about who runs Microsoft for a second. Even if you don't use Cortana, all the functionality, apparently including the ability to send e-mail on your behalf and probably a whole load of gov't spying, is still there. Some of the stuff I've heard is so out there it sounds like a tinfoil-hat conspiracy theory to describe. Just... don't trust a computer that talks to you.
Oh well. Seems I was wrong. Point proven even further though. Going back to coloured taskbar/start/window frames is literally one checkbox. Btw, OSX defaults to grey and guess what, you can't change that. Again, literally three clicks to hide it. Right click on taskbar, Cortana > Hidden. So don't use them? It's not like OSX doesn't have stuff you might never use. Though I have to agree Win10 is horribly bloated, most of it can be uninstalled. Completely agree with you there, Win10's default settings are a crime against privacy - then again I have nothing to hide and honestly couldn't care less if my info is in some MS server where nobody will ever look at it. And it's no worse than most social networks.
Yeah, there are quite a few things that I would consider to be sketchy. I honestly don't mind computers that talk. The problem is that currently in order to do that they rely on sending voice data over the web and then sending data back. if it were done 100% locally then I wouldn't have any issue. I would even be happy to buy a little proprietary box to do that providing it didn't phone home. Well I don't use any of them anyway. I have a g+ account but don't really post to it. I also don't buy into the nothing to hide policy. It can be used in either direction. The thing that worries me the most is that all this spying is going on, but then suddenly when any politician finds out that they have been subject to the same rules as the citizens that they are supposed to represent its suddenly unacceptable. It should not be the case that politicians feel that they are above the public that they are supposed to represent in my opinion.
I hate OSX with a passion. It saddens me deeply to write this from OSX right now. Although hopefully next week I am whacking windows on here, yes windows 10, I have a free license (not an upgrade).
