I don't like fat steering wheels and small ones look goofy. 05+ panther steering wheels are too fat, and feel really awkward if held at 9 and 2 or 10 and 3 or whatever. Steering wheel covers and all aftermarket wheels ever suck. My friend has a '98 or '99 mercedes e320. I was somewhat disgusted to find a pristine condition wheel under the big, gaudy, nasty steering wheel cover. That's blasphemy. I tore it off. He also has cheap seat covers over the tear-free leather seats. Dunno why. The thing is beat, not in good enough condition to be trying to preserve the interior.
I'm 6'2" and now about 170lbs and while I was car shopping I figured out I couldn't comfortably fit in a new Hyundai Sonata. I fit better in my friends '09 Miata. Maybe the sonata is just shaped wrong.
Also - at the aforementioned 5'6", if I try to wear a fedora (yes, I have one) in my Sunbird, it'll probably get mashed into the headliner at some point. It's also fairly small side-to-side (not enough that I notice day-to-day, but enough to warrant a goofy hoop-style parking brake handle around a tiny center console) despite being large for a compact car of the time. Thing is like a reverse TARDIS. Not that I'm complaining; low rooflines are good for looks and aerodynamics and are becoming less common in "mainstream" cars these days.
Not sure what are standard measures of human which cars are made, but when you have long legs and not so long arms, 6'1" height, things always tended to get bit interesting, head was quite close or at the roof, hard to wear helmet, when backrest is in such angle that can have some steering control, of course seat has to be quite back or knees will hit the steering wheel. Not issue anymore as I don't drive anymore, but it was bit hard to find anything that fits.
By far the least comfortable vehicle I've ever been in was a 1957 Land Rover Series I (a rather famous one actually). My left foot is on the clutch pedal in this photo, and I had to hold it like that to keep from pressing it. From what I could tell the seat was non-adjustable. I can only imagine how sore you'd be after a few hours. Even still, I loved it and would drive it around the world myself if I could.
I have to get a photo of me sitting in my dads drag car. It is incredibly small and becuase the seat doesn't have rails, it is set for his height which is about 5'10 5'11. My knees fit between the dash and the steering wheel and getting my knees under the wheel is a major struggle. Sorry for replying so much, its finally a topic I have experience with.
Whereas the 5ft guy I know has opposite problem. No matter how the seat is adjusted. He can't press the pedals properly in quite a few cars. Some are fine and others are just not intended for anyone of his height
Was this thread cleaned up or was it just inactive for a day? If there was stuff here i can't remember what it was.
I've been checking in every so often as I work. I honestly don't think anyone's posted. Just some weird fluke I guess.
20 minutes into playing BeamNG and my blood pressure is already through the goddamn roof. Had a good screenshot and crashed trying to close the memory warning :/
I was sort of meh until I saw the Series III. That might be the only vehicle I drive from this point on. It's managed to escape Turn 10's obsession with making cars unsuitably left-hand drive.
If i'm correct, the BMW will probably be D Class, and I will turn it into a B class Simple offroader.
