I think it's safe to say that I shouldn't bother trying fix this. Bloody eurocamp hire bike! I feel like such a a fucking idiot now. All the cogs on the derailier are broken and cracked. Cheap bike anyway, hope fully they won't bill us lol.
Presumably you hit the dérailleur off something or dropped the bike on it while placing it on the floor. You can replace the entire dérailleur can be replaced for about £/$15. I was gonna say that you could fix it by repositioning it bike to be the same sort of shape as below, but it actually looks like you cracked one of the sprockets, not sure how easy/ cost effective it is to replace one of those. For reference it is supposed to be facing this direction:
To tell you the truth, It has me scared. Though to give Donald credit, he's actually trying to stop it. Obama did nothing at all, allowing this to escalate even further.
I understand which way it is meant to go, but the issue is that I have to give the bike back tomorrow morning. I really hope if they do bill us it's it is only the actual price of the thing. What I assume happened was when I was putting it into 1st gear to pedal really fast as a joke, I heard a crunch which I assumed as just changing, but then the pedals stopped and the wheel wouldn't move, so I just pushed hard and presumably completely broke it...
Then add an hours labour to the cost, plus the cost of one hours lease to cover the cost of the bike being out of action then add on a fixed fine for causing damage I doubt they will be that bad about it. Its a cheap component and they probably get them at cheaper prices than the public. But they may try to turn a profit out of it depending on how decent a company they are. The hire bikes in my city have sealed driveshafts connecting the pedals to the rear wheels, but they are a different type of hire bike. They are adding electric bikes into circulation very soon though. Will be interesting to see what they look like. Might be tempting to give one a go, if the normal ones are anything to go by they will be absolutely awful, but could be fun. I have totally not taken one of them off-road round a wet forest, and did not find that the mud guard got filled with twigs and mud and had to be scrapped out. There was in no way a loud banging noise coming from the rear wheel after a while of using it that subsided eventually. I also didn't have to cycle through every puddle on the way back to a drop off station to clean it. I also totally didn't get any strange looks from some old ladies wandering through the forest.
I guess it's lesson learnt then. 1 hour lease shouldn't be too much anyway, got it for two weeks for 27 euros. Still doesn't change the fact that I feel like a stupid retard haha By the way, the company that leased it are eurocamp. I'm on a campsite. The back wheel also had a few spokes broken off when I tried to cycle with the fucked up part.
