I'd love to have a wired connection in my room, but that's not possible. My ISP isn't fast enough to even notice a difference over ethernet anyway.

What about powerline networking? I should look into it.

Ethernet is still better than WiFi. I guess powerline works too. (Don't have any experience with it.)

I have an ethernet cord that comes out of the basement door, through the hallway, and into my room just because I didn't want to use WiFi on my desktop anymore.

So, comcast has a new support system via Twitter, and I must say it actually works really really well (my internet is far slower today then usual, within the hour they discovered that there's a signal issue between me and the comcast servers)

    Re: General discussion chat

Because of my perfectionism, I'd have to do it correctly. I'd go up into the attic and run cat 5 to my room, down through the wall and make a link point to where I can then hard wire my desktop in. But, I don't have the time or the patience to do that, so Wi-Fi will do.

Powerline sucks, it really does. I'd say its only useful when neither cat5 or WiFi are possible. WiFi is better.

Chances are in the home environment, if cat5 isn't possible, cat6 isn't either.

My point was meant to be that wifi is better than power line. Not whether cat5, cat6 or WiFi are best.

And my rig runs off wifi. It's OK, but I wish I had Ethernet. And I guess powerline is decent enough for most.

To be honest my computer ran from my phones wifi connected to my PC using usb when the router decided to not allow my pc to connect. At the time our speeds were 10mbit/s so the only difference was a ping of 40 instead of 30.
