Re: General discussion chat 95% of crown vic sales in it's later years were fleet sales. Police departments don't want manual police cars. They made what the consumer wanted. And I don't really care that they're automatic.
Re: General discussion chat and it would have been that hard to offer both? (seriously though, ford should bring back the crown vic)
Re: General discussion chat Nobody is going to bring a fullsize body on frame sedan back, it is plain nonsense. Deal with it, that is old tech. Also their police Taurus is doing good so far, no reason to bring that back.
Re: General discussion chat orlly: http://www.golocalprov.com/news/ri-police-new-cars-cant-beat-the-crown-victoria yep, so much better
Re: General discussion chat Who's to say it must be body on frame? There's nothing wrong with a unibody construction. Ford is the only American make who doesn't make a V8 4-door sedan. Why? Chrysler sells loads of 300s and Chargers and the Chevy SS is pure badass.
Re: General discussion chat It probably would have been more work than it's worth. I don't know. Just not much profit to be had, probably. Especially near the end of it's life. Got even less popular with the public and even more fleet sales. The few people that did buy them were old. Speaking of crown vics, called the dude at the machine shop, and he said that he was gonna figure out a way to get a title. Could be 2-8 weeks. But I'm going over there again to look at it and test drive it next week.
Re: General discussion chat There's a reason that police departments bought up hundreds of Crown Victorias and put them in storage shortly before they were discontinued. Everything about a crown vic is perfect for police work. They have tons of room both inside the cabin and in the trunk. Big, lasting engine. But the main reason why they like them is because they're though. These are one of the few cars that you can blast through a corn field at 40 miles per hour hot on the tail of a cavalier, then get on the road and have a 90mph chase for half and hour, then pit maneuver said cavalier, and not be completely trashed afterwords.
Re: General discussion chat British police don't ram, and I think that final sentence explains why, cars would be totally trashed Ramming is a last resort normally.
Re: General discussion chat Cops here are definitely more liberal with the "ramming technique" to end chases. If a put maneuver is done right, though, it's more of a push than a ram. It usually the car being chased that suffers more damage than anything, because they don't have much control at all over where they go after they've been pitted. It's why cops try to pick a wide, empty road to do it.
Re: General discussion chat Average British cop car: Wunderbar Opel. Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astras are the standard patrol cars with Ford Mondeos and Skoda Octavias often used as area cars. Traffic cars are cooler though. Wrexies and Evos as interceptors and less interestingly you get the Beemers and volvos.
Re: General discussion chat No sane police force rams. Shoot, eh, okay, you are gonna miss the person anyway, but no ramming, it can do far more damage than was planned. Also far less RWD cars in europe, so the pit is a bit less functional here. Unless you want to actually kill the person in the intercepted car, ramming is out of the question.
Re: General discussion chat Like I said, a pit maneuver is more of a push than a ram. You're not supposed to come up beside them, and violently serve and slam into their drivers door. This is a perfectly executed pit. And when you put that many people in danger by running from the cops, you don't deserve safety. Like the cop in this video said, "a pit is not a ram. You want to lean on the car just enough to break the rear tires loose"
Re: General discussion chat average american police/cop car: (obviously livery is different for each city)
Re: General discussion chat Like US police seem to care about killing suspects Which is the other thing. Our police are entirely unarmed save for a baton (a rather weedy telescoping one, its like one of those old telescopic antenna more than a baseball bat) and pepper spray because that does alot of good against a shotgun wielding gyppo. When they do carry firearms, they are totally badass about it: But most of the time, "alright barry", "yeah good, you", "yeah yeah, wanna cuppa?": Exception. 7% of metropolitan police are trained for firearms usage, some of those even routinely carry in london: there are some other cooler outfits in circulation too: But generally, british cops dont seem to be the toughest around. - - - Updated - - - I should also clarify that if a british person asks you "alright?", the correct response is also "alright?", otherwise you are a terrible brit and as such Barry must watch a kitten be shot. - - - Updated - - - Atomix is right though, easy to recover from that in a front drive car which probably does contribute to its rarity over here, seems over here they wait until they can get the suspect into a mega open area which also requires the suspect to turn a corner and nudge him as he's cornering, harder to correct.
Re: General discussion chat Dubai has the best police cars. I don't really see the cops doing a PIT with those cars though.
