A Q9300 is about as powerful as a first gen i5-650.

A 260X should get 30-50 FPS in all maps except for east coast. Overclock it and you'll average 40-ish.

Overclocking is very easy using MSI afterburner, Sapphire whateveritwascalled or even AMD's own driver suite which has an OC utility (I'm currently using it with no stability issues).

Yep. You won't have any CPU bottleneck in BeamNG, let alone other games which barely touch the CPU.

In my experience lowering texture and mesh detail makes barely any difference at all, both visual and performance wise. In normal settings you should get a good 40-60 FPS depending on where on the map you are. You'll probably get ~50 if you overclock. I have no idea how much OC headroom the 260X has, but a 50 MHz increase in core clock speed is enough to make a noticeable difference.

i7 != best cpu evar omgee

Actually, an i7 makes barely any difference for gaming (2-3 FPS increase from an i5- 4690K to an i7-4790K paired with a GTX 980, and that's just the 500 MHz increase in clock speed, since the 3.5 GHz i5 has the same gaming performance as a 3.5 GHz i7-4770K). It's much better than the i5, however, for video and 3d rendering.

    AMD Radeon R7 260X.

There are several manufacturers, I recommend Sapphire as their quality is very good and it's the cheapest model at $110. Here's a link to newegg:

    15 FPS if you're lucky.

I just had an idea, we should have a 'general computer talk/advice' thread to ask questions or have heated arguments about hardware.
    I'm making one now.

    I'm bored.
I'm gonna remake my Intel wallpaper in Illustrator to export 4K versions. Then I might make an AMD/Radeon wallpaper and a Nvidia one.

Come on, Beam. Stap with the memory usage, por favor.

It'd be nice to play for more than 30 minutes without filling 8 gig of RAM up.
