Personally i really like the num pad for entering numbers. But blender is a bit of a pain without one.

You wont get the green (i think there is a green variant), but you get the blue and red as well as a keyboard that in my opinion looks far nicer than the corsair ones.

It looks like a generic rubberdome keyboard, only with backlit keys and an ugly spacebar.

Ducky keyboards are some of the highest end mechanical keyboards on the market. They look great in my opinion. Clean and elegant. I'd definitely replace the spacebar though (IIRC they come with a plain space bar and a animal one).

Nope, they do not come with the blank space bar in the box (i think the shine 3 did). But you can buy a new one if you like. Personally i preferred the year of the snake space bar but the horse one looks ok.

The issue i have with them is pricing. The Shine 4 is $150 in America yet its £150 in the uk which is $227 when converted directly. Not something i am willing to pay for a keyboard to be honest. Even if you remove taxes its $190 in the uk, so we are getting totally screwed over. If they sold it for $150 + vat in the UK then it would be palatable. I would be willing to spend £118 on one.

Yeah they're very expensive, but from what I've heard they are worth the money. I think Varmilo keyboards look absolutely stunning.

I never understood why people ditch the numpad. For iRacing and the Papyrus sims it's the only way to control replays, and in BeamNG, you can use the numpad to control the camera.

IMO a keyboard needs a numpad no matter what.

I'd probably get a Varmilo once my keyboard dies. If they have numpads, obviously.

I never really use my numpad and I find that it gets in the way too much. It's nice to have when you need to use it, but for the most part I wouldn't miss it if it was not there.

I'd never use a tenkeyless. I can't really think of a situation where I'd want one. It annoys me when I see pictures of people at school and stuff using small mechs on top of their laptops. Just use the laptop keyboard, it's not that big of a deal.

That really depends, the keyboard on the mac book pro that i have to use in school is really awful. They key travel is no where near enough, Its almost like typing on a touch screen. Other laptops are usually far better in my experience though. Then there is also the fact that the mac book pro is made out of metal, meaning the top of that thing gets pretty warm and quickly becomes uncomfortable to type on. On top of the mac book pro has sharp edges, meaning that you dont even need to slit your wrists while using it since it feels like its doing that for you. Other than that and the equally useless touch pad its fairly decent, the school runs xp on it which is a bit of pain to use these days due to no window snapping etc but its fairly ok.

Then there are people like me who have windows tablets, a tenkeyless keyboard will fit in my rucksack while a full size keyboard usually does not fit too well.

The idea of a tenkeyless is that it allows you to place your hands closer which is a healthier posture to maintain. It is also very useful because it allows you to move between typing and moving the mouse quicker due to the reduced distance between the two. They also take up less space on the desk which is convenient too.

Personally the best smaller size format that i have thought of is where they remove the arrow keys. They then replace numlock with delete. You save space, still keep all the functionality since there would be a button at the top of the keyboard to switch between numpad and gaming cluster, the gaming cluster allows you to use numpad as traditional cursor keys while adding macro buttons around it. In my opinion that fixes all of my problems. But i would probably still buy a full size.

I want a WASDKeyboards keyboard. Fully custom, and built to order by switch and layout. Just go to their site and orgasm.

I'd still use the keyboard rather than carry around a tenkeyless. I use a Latitude and a Precision with fairly nice keyboards anyway..

    *cough*

as for the whole numpad thing, to each their own i suppose, but personally i couldn't touch a keyboard without a numpad, i use it far too often to be without (probably why i have so much trouble typing on my siblings laptop actually, it has no numpad)

Anyone have one of those cherry sampler kits? If I'm ever going to get a board I'll want to decide which color I want. From what I've heard I'll either want clears or blacks though.

Yes, it is very much personal preference.

The reason i suggested the ducky one is because it has dual colour LED's that allow you to mix blue and red to get any purple colours in between. Which is closer to the RGB colouring that the corsair keyboard you mentioned had than that cm storm model. But if the CM storm one fits your needs better then go for that one instead.
