Oh, great. Gmod is broken. Again.

Now I'll have to go through every single addon individually and check if it works. All of them.

I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to import the sunburst DAE file into 3Ds.Max. Currently when I do it it goes on about FBX being incompatible with the materials blah blah. Fair enough, I'm not looking to texture. What I don't understand is why the car's body gets deleted during the import. Or at least not imported properly, as it's reduced to two vertices. Help.

Good, Gmod is working again. Now, how did I create SWEPs?

So, on the older thrift store system, it has 96MB of RAM. #! is amazing in all its glory, but it takes about 78MB idle. I haven't tried DSL, but I kind of like Puppy, although I have no clue on its RAM usage. Which one do you think I should use?

    Just run Win95 on it.

    - - - Updated - - -

Right, so I had to export a .mdl from max.
And there's close to no documentation on how to do it.

This is all going great so far.

I'm assuming it either has 3x32mb or 1x64mb and 1x32mb sticks.

I played it a long time ago on my old system. Actually didn't have nearly as many bugs as BF4 did at the time. I liked it.

Don't have a copy, and it had 98 on it. Running either DSL or Puppy, sorry.

It has 1x64 and 1x32. Nailed it.

Then pirate it. It's not like Microsoft is gonna come after you for downloading an OS that was discontinued over 10 years ago.

    Worldmodel is working, yey.

Now I have to find out how to texture. And how to actually make the thing work as a SWEP :|

It had Win98. Don't want to go back. It needs a new life, not an old one.

EDIT: Going with Puppy on this one. I've used it and it is simple enough. DSL is DS, but not quite L in the best form.

Did you censor crap? Okay then..

It amazes me how many people don't use the number pad. I use it for entering numbers and for games..

Why use the numpad? I have a row of numbers at the top of the keyboard. I can hit them with 2 hands for better efficiency than the numpad which requires removal of 1 hand from its designated keyboard area and then limits me to 1 handed typing on the numpad. The top row melds perfectly with a proper 2 handed typing approach. I do not use the numpad even where available.

87 is basically North American and 88 is European. The difference is a key in between left shift and z.

Eh. Dropped my OC to just a solid 4.0 and voltage by 0.13v and temps went down 20c. I can live with that.

so we all know how bad chrome is at resource management when it comes to RAM (or at least, the 32-bit version of chrome)

i did some testing with the 64-bit version of chrome

i have over 21 tabs open (most of them of youtube) chrome is using 176MB, with the same amount of tabs with the same websites firefox uses 449.3MB of ram (32-bit chrome? we all know how bad that would be)

and that's with stock firefox, while chrome has a few addons (adblock, light's off, hola, tom's hardware, alientube, RES, BetterTTV, and enhanced steam)

TL;DR: 64-bit chrome has actual resource management instead of just eat_all_the_ram.exe

Source's viewmodel bone system is utterly retarded.

Placing a viewmodel should be simple: You use a node, with a position and rotation relative to the camera, and stick the model to that node. Weapon animations are done on the node for melee swings, recoil, etc, plus any additional model animations for shell ejection, reloading, etc.

Instead, Source does some weird shit placing the weapon relative to a player model bone, but the weapon needs its own bones and it's all confusing and there's no fucking documentation on the subject at all.

If you really want to make the viewmodel relative to the player model, just use the world model and stick the camera in front of the player's head.

    Fuck you Valve.
