@Logoster No they don't. Major facepalm right there.

And i can't say i'm happy with your pick either. But ... it's a fictional setup so i don't bother.

Microsoft being Micro$oft. Yay. At least Win10 upgrades to make up for the 30 years of ripping off consumers. (sarcasm)

Or they will bring you into 10 for free and then they'll force you to pay for it at some point. They wouldn't just give it to you for free, no strings attached.

It's only free to upgrade for the first year after release. Then you'll have to pay for it.
If you upgrade for free, you can keep it for free.

It's a good way to get people to update.

Buh, seriously. Fuck them. This is my second Windows 8/8.1 key to break. (Bought 8 direct from MS back in 2012 when it was $15. Then when it broke I said fuck it and bought one from some dude on Reddit who sells keys.) I'm gonna see if that dude I bought the key from will help me in any way and then I'll either buy yet another one or downgrade to 7.

tbh after what you said about them not reactivating your key because it's used for "piracy", then I guess I won't be able to do the same for my key. I have done like 3 reinstalls (general reinstall, linux wouldn't get off after I installed it and I had to format my ssd from another pc because i cba to look up how to recover the install, and most recently my upgraded build, and I wanted to start fresh again.), so they'd probably not believe me.

also the activation thing only comes up every few hours so it's not a big annoyance.

also i am trying to find origami paper online that i can buy in bulk because i'm somehow getting back into it. modular origami ftw :3

Yeah, I got caught in the pit of not genuine. My Win7 on my rig broke a while because and i'm quoting the guy, "you overclocked the machine and it removed the windows key". WAIT WHAT? So he had to get me a fresh copy that day. And endless reinstalling.

Legit Windows copies activate just fine ... 3 or 5 times via online activation, after that per phone number. I did that countless times just fine. You probably got a stolen serial number - hence the low price of 15$ - doesn't that look already suspicious? Retailprice being 80-100$ and you did get it for 15$?

Don't blame M$ just because you wanted to save a couple bucks :D

Also since Win 7 Windows looks for hardware changes and requires a reactivation once it detects a significant change in hardware (like using the same key on a different machine). OCing or even switching a GPU can cause that but as long as you use a legit serial all should be fine. There are no limitations on phone activation.

I bought the first copy straight from the Microsoft website when 8 was first released. They were selling it for $15. I have an old XP key that I used for every install of XP I made. It worked for years, until it suddenly ran out of activations or whatever. But after they ended support for it in April it started working again, so yey. After I replaced the motherboard in my ultrabook with Windows 7 though I had to do a phone activation.

    That does indeed look amazing.

So yeah, that's basically a guarantee that they are not genuine codes :p

My Windows deactivated one time, i just used the code from the sticker that i got with the oem copy of Win7 that i stuck on the back of my PC.

Nope. He sells a lot for varying OSes and software and is a mod on /r/softwareswap. He has that Microsoft service (I forget what it's called) that he can get working keys for OSes and software and then sells them. It's illegal to sell them because I think it's intended for businesses and shit, but they're cheap and they work.

they would though, heck they did exactly that with windows 8.1, completley free upgrade from windows 8, no strings attached

the only difference is that this is going to be windows 10, and the upgrade is only going to be free for one year, if you get it within that time frame it's your's forever, if not, then you have to purchase it, AND it will be a free upgrade for windows 7 as well instead of just windows 8/8.1, heck, even windows phone gets this upgrade for free
