It's not like it has to be stock or custom, as long as the performance lets it drift. (Plus the wheel drive.)

Okay then, let's make this easy:
Does Drifting or Grip give you a challenge?

Exactly. Drifting atleast challenges you driving skills, while Grip is just what helps the car.

By my judgement I can't pick either. I am a drifter and a racer, although you can race while drifting.
Racing which is my main category of knowledge can involve sliding to be faster.
Both a RWD and AWD car I have gotten to go faster around a track but not without wearing the tires wearily quicker.
Yes faster, but would it be faster in the long run, in my case I think not.
    Drifting is fun
    Racing is fun
    Hotlapping is fun
Just depends on who you are

Grip driving is faster and more efficient, so it's best for racing.

Drifting is generally fun and better looking from a spectator's point of view, which is why they have pro events involving drifting.

Both driving styles require immense skill to perfect.

I really like the feeling of sliding and being on the edge of spinning out
But then driving fast a nailing the Apex is also great fun.
When I go have some fun on go-karts I spend first 1-2 laps drifting as tires aren't warm enough for hotlapping, then I do a bit of hotlapping. Last lap is usually just for fun that means trying to drift a 6 or 9hp kart on hot tires (quite hard to do).
I also love when there are some people to race with as most of the people in my area going karting are some retards driving vw golfs of BMWs that means that they know shit about driving fast and I can just run around them with much slower kart and laugh at them when they try to pit me which results in them facplanting the steering wheel at top speed after hiting a tire bundle head on :D
I remember that feeling when my kart blew a brake line on the main straight and it just happended that the kid who rammed my sister was in front of me :D he hit his balls on the steering wheel hard :p

The only problem with Grip is when used in drag races. Be lucky to not fly up like a missile before becoming NASCAR's "The Big One."
