Yeah, the driving physics, and especially intervehicle multiplayer collisions, are awful when it comes to racing. They absolutely do not reward skill, just punish bad luck. It might as well be a game of D&D where you have to roll a dexterity check to see if you make it around the corner or randomly spin out. I've had times where I slam someone with a hard pit maneuver and I just bounce off like a toy and they're totally unaffected. Other times a guy will lightly tap me and my car shoots away in a violent spin for no reason.
Haha I spent like 70hrs playing that game online, the single player wasn't too great but MP is a blast. Too bad no one ever plays on PC any more.
I think that is because there's still lag between what you see and what others see. You may have hit him on your Xbox but he may have been 5 feet away in his view. Hate when on the highway the traffic decides to lag and lurches forward 40 feet. Usually right into you. Still fun as hell. It seems the cars get damaged a bit easier now... I jumped a Landstalker and it bent the frame on it pretty good.
You guys better check if your car insurance is still there the next time you log on. My super rare(in online anyways) Schwartzer got blown up by a tank, and my 10 on insurance is gone, and so is my insurance. Thanks a lot Rockstar, now I can go and grind 80k just for a flipping car that I wouldn't have needed to buy if you just did your job properly. And that tank could have NEVER blown my character up, because the barrel was pointing over my head. Could've NEVER hit me from that angle. They pretty much closed off any SP exploit to make MP less fun... That's litterally what they did. I'm starting to agree that the multiplayer really kind of sucks, compared to the simplicity of the free roam in GTA IV... Then again, in IV the random 'you've been kicked' bugs were really annoying too.
i too am suffering the extreme annoyances caused by Online. Half the times i'm stuck looking at white fluffy clouds with no indication as to what the fuck is going on. My friends struggle to join many of my games and if they do, something is bound to screw up ("Access to the Rockstar servers is not available at this time..." ETC). And dear god is racing difficult with cars juttering all over the place, i have no idea how they got this host migration idea so messed up, racing cars that fly through you sending you into space (not literally) and then appearing miles ahead (super laggy de-sync and crap). My god, how do you get £3 billion in 3 days and not be able to setup a simple (in my opinion) online system. Yes i understand there is alot to go wrong, yes i know things will get improved in the future but 5 years, a huge amount of money, and a very excited fan-base/audience.... why can't i get in a game with more than 2 people!?!?
network lag issues is most likeley on your side, actually, so you cant blame rockstar for that, because your the first person anywhere to say anything about lag - - - Updated - - - LOL, i found these, such funny pictures: and: so, what are your thoughts on these pictures (other then being hilarious)
Stealing a fighter jet from the military base, and successfully getting away? Challenging. Not hard, but a challenge for sure. I've accomplished it, have one in my hangar. Stealing the awesome desert camouflage cargo plane? Next to impossible. Once those tanks deploy, RPGs, foot soldiers and helicopters...it's practically impossible to take off in that huge, slow cargo plane and get away without being shot down or taking too much damage on the ground and explode before those props power up. After losing engines 3 and 4 to gunfire while rolling to the runway, I managed to take off, bank a hard right, and use the mountain for cover: (imported from here) I flew on 2 props to my airfield, halfway there I lost engines 1 and 2. Landed it with all props shut down. (imported from here) I don't play a lot of games to have fun necessarily, I do it for the challenge. This was f***ing hard. Took me 5 or so tries to get a cargo plane off the ground without the military blowing it to pieces. I won't lie, I'm a little proud of myself. I used the invincibility cheat to get onto the base and into a plane each time, but that's it. Bittersweet victory though, I don't have the airport hangar yet, so I had no place to store it.
Went to my friends house, after watching him play he handed off the controller and fell asleep. Lol, so I went straight to the military base and tried to steal another cargo plane. Stole it first try, lost engines 3 and 4 on the ground like before. Flew all the way to LS airport then doubled back, lost engines 1 and 2 before I could get to a landing strip. Lost altitude and crashed landed on a field. Awesome.
2 in a row haha, this is usually the kind of stuff I like most about GTA games, excellent time wasters. It's hard to hold out for the PC version.
Getting really sick of all the crappy mechanics and bugs in this game. I completed the titan delivery mission in multiplayer, and it spawned me at the airfield right afterwards 5 feet from a random player who proceeded to shoot me in the head before I could even react, and then he stole the $10k I just got for the mission. Then I found out that it deleted all 10 cars in my garage and removed my hair. You'd think through 5 years of development and by the 3rd patch they'd have fixed such glaring bugs (especially the ones that said patches promised to fix). The missions all feel like absolute grinds and chores. The gun combat is punishing and obnoxious, with horrendous input lag and twitchy/jerky/unintuitive aim. The cover system does its best to expose you to gunfire while prohibiting you from hitting anything, often placing you "behind" cover with your back to the enemy, unable to shoot them. And it takes an absurdly long time to turn around; way too long to actually fire at enemies it spawns right behind you. The only fun thing to do is screwing around in free roam with friends, which is always ruined by the absurd telepathic police AI that spawns infinitely everywhere you go. Oh, and I love that I have to load story mode before I can join or host a specific online game; my only other option being hitting A during a 5 second window while the game starts so it can plunge me into a random public game with no choice at all. There are just so many bad decisions upon bad decisions made designing this game, its interface, and the online launch. The minigames that they wasted time implementing (like golf and tennis) also have terrible controls and broken mechanics.
You know, I've seen a lot of complaints about this from legit game reviewers and magazines. I don't think I agree, at least not me personally. I find the combat mechanics to be particularly easy to master and get the hang of. The cover system, aiming, weapon selection and reload movement is all one fluid motion for me. I find shootouts to be fun and holding a position challenging and semi-realistic. Even without cheats, I can hold my own against the murderous police AI. I watch my friend play and it's almost painful to watch him fumble with the controls and all around just not play very well. Then I pick up the controller and it's the exact opposite. Although of course, I'm talking about single player. I have no idea whats going on in online play, and if that's what you were referring to with the combat system.
And that's enough with the off-topic. The telepathic police AI is starting to piss me off more and more too btw. It only seems like it actually uses direct line of sight when it registers that you're hiding(ie when you're in cover), and if you don't, it just uses the 'if you are within their search cone' or something.
I hate when I'm hiding out behind a house in a car where no cops saw me go and the cops magically know I'm there and turn into that house.
I'm really enjoying this game, particularly races and survival mode. @sleepypickup: It took my friend and I like half an hour to steal 2 jet fighters from the zancudo military area and then fly to the desert airfield to take a pic. We had to climb a mountain and then jump over the fence with a car to enter and then be lucky enough not to get shot while you're stealing the jet fighter xDD:
Whilst I do feel for all of you who are having issues with online, you're all starting to come across as gluttons for punishment. You're all well aware of how dismally flakey online play is, its well documented that theres a chance you'll lose characters/progress/money etc, yet you're all still plugging away sinking time and effort into progressing and then getting proper grumpy when it all falls down and you lose the cash you've spent the last 4 hours grinding for. Its totally unacceptable that the game is broken to this extent, and like I say, I do sympathise with those of you losing hard earned progress; but the solution is just to remove yourself from the problem and just don't play online for a couple of weeks until its confirmed that the issues are sorted. Mind you, I had an issue with the single player game last night being stuffed up by the dodgy social club servers - on one of the paparazzi missions where you have to take a photo of a target, everytime I get the camera out the game scans for about 30 seconds trying to load my snapmatic photos - of which there aren't any as I haven't taken any, and then it throws up a 'social club unavailable' error anyway - by which time the event I'm supposed to be photographing has happened, I've missed it and fail the mission. I'll have to do that mission offline I guess.
>my post got deleted. Wow. Talk about no fun allowed. Game's great.....but to be honest....I kind of prefer GTA IV. Much better car list(Dukes, Sabre/beater Sabre, Faction, Hakumai, old BlistaC, Stallion, Tampa, Rhapsody, Marbelle, Virgo .etc), and the cop AI isn't complete bullshit. (inb4 someone says only fat cops spawn in IV) Also-the Manana and Emperor no longer have white wall tires-what the hell was R* thinking? Here are some of my cars: (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here)
