Good work, I will be looking more at this when it is done and I can't wait to compare it to HL2 lol. Keep up the good work!;)

Would be cool to have adjustable coilovers as an option, the stock suspension is a little bit too stiff for my liking. Otherwise drives great!

Fair enough, I do not know why I overlooked that.

I am still working on the buggy and figured I'd explain the transmission.

The transmission in half life 2 is a 5-speed, but the shifter only shows 4 gears lol. I wanted the underlying parts to match the meshes and textures as closely as possible, so I stuck with 4-speed. Since the ratios were setup with 5-speeds in mind, I went with the ratios from an early Dodge V8 from this page. I chose this because the Jalopy and Scout Car share transmission specs and the jalopy is based on a 1969 Dodge Charger. I also stuck with the 4-speed because it was really easy to port the shifter movements from the barstow 4-speed.

In future updates, I will be including 5-speed as an option as well as including a version of each that has customizable ratios.

Also, I scaled the buggy a bit smaller than I should have. I did not realize that the physics files had the radius of the tires and estimated the size based on the size of the seat compared to the autobello seats. The rear tires should be 40 inches tall and they are currently 35. I will be correcting the scaling for the next update as well.

So my plans for the next update are:

    • Adding adjustable suspension
    • Adding 5-speed transmission
    • Adding adjustable transmission ratios
    • Correcting scaling.
    • Retuning configs

I have the model and most of the jbeam rescaled. I figured I'd show how it compares to the D-series and the Scarab:

I was about to ask the same thing! The airboat and jalopy would be sick!!!

I might be able to do the jalopy, but the airboat will take a bit of research on my end to get working.

For the jalopy, the biggest obstacle I will run into is the body panels on the rear. The closest I have come to working with anything aside from tubes is the body kits for the backyard kart and they do not deform well...

For the airboat, it will take a much more careful approach to weight balance than other vehicles since it is pushed at a spot well above the center of mass and I am going to have to practice with rotators before I can even think about doing that justice.

Not saying no, but more like we'll see.

Not much to show visually from today's work as I mostly worked on the jbeam and non-visual parts. I did add a stage 1 supercharger, though.
    screenshot_2023-06-12_17-42-19.png

I also fixed the colors and the aiming of the headlights

I also got the suspension tuned so that it is a mostly smooth ride through most of the dune and valley trails in johnson valley. This is without using bypass shocks, so the overall performance is not super great. I might add them to this, but I want to keep it close to the theme and the meshes. Here is a quick video I threw together:

    Changes:
    • Frame
      • Redid the uv map of the tubes, which almost eliminated the seams
    • Suspension
      • Increased the suspension travel
      • Reduced spring rates on the built-in configs
      • Changed the flexbody groupings of the front arms
    • Engine
      • Added Intake subcategory on the new mesh
      • Added supercharger for the new mesh
    • Other
      • Redid front bumper connections
      • Changed the color of the headlights
      • Re-aimed the top headlights
      • Added glowmaps to all lights and gauges
      • Continued rescaling
        • Still need to change the fuel tank and the battery

Not yet. I am still working on changes to the jbeams right now. I am finding more and more that can be better, so I do not know for sure when I will upload the next version.

Edit: I am using this thread to keep track of changes and to let you all know what is going into it as well as looking for any feedback on the versions that are released.

Looking at the latest video, looks like the rebound dampening on the rear shocks is set way too high. Just my personal opinion though lol

It most certainly was too high. I further increased the travel and softened the read end a bunch on the built-in configs. They now are fully customizable as are the transmissions, so if you get a tune that works well for you, shoot it my way and I will add it in so you don't have to redo it if an update breaks your config!

And I have the next update ready. I am getting too distracted by driving it around to focus on the issues, so I figured I'd upload the next version for feedback.

I have the next version uploaded to the OP

    Known issues:

    • The front suspension is a bit floppy due to the weight of the wheels
      • There is such a small amount of weight on the front that I can't figure out a way to improve the damping without over-stiffening the front end
    • Some non-vital parts break off fairly easily
      • The headlights and radio are the most obviously affected
    • The wheels and suspension arms are way too strong
      • They will wrap around the frame and still not break.

Future progress updates and releases are going to be much slower as I am now in the phase of refinement and experimentation. As usual, please let me know if you run into any issues with it so I can try to fix it for the next release.

Not too much to report on so far as most of my time working on this has been working on the front suspension to reduce the floppiness. However, there have been two major changes since the last update:

    1. The tires should be much heavier than they were
      1. Around 20-30% heavier
    2. The wheels are much heavier than they should be.
      1. They were around 40-ish pounds each and should have been around 20-30
    3. There will be a jato in the next update.
      1. This takes the place of the engine as there is no other place to really fit it.
Here is a picture of the jato fitment. It is functional right now and the buggy is stable up to 300-ish mph before it starts fish-tailing badly and up to 500mph before the tires start popping. It is aligned almost perfectly so it just barely rotates to the rear when in the air.

Before I get the next release out, I want to get the floppiness of the front end taken care of as well as jbeaming the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster right now will deform while the needles will stay in the same position. I plan on making it able to fall off since it is held in place in the same way as the headlights.

Had a bunch of silence on this one as I focused on other projects while brainstorming the floppiness. I am getting closer, but I am not happy with it quite yet. I did get the gauge cluster jbeamed though, so the next release shouldn't be too far off.

Man, this thing is awesome. The V8 sounds incredible and the entire thing is just super detailed and awesome down to the pedals. Awesome job.

    Thank you!

The next update is still in the works and it is not abandoned. I caught covid shortly after posting that last update and have just very recently recovered to the point of being lucid long enough to think (asthma + covid === aBadTime), so after the next update for the backyard kart goes live, I will be working on finishing the update for this.
