Anyway, comparing with my previous tests here http://www.beamng.com/threads/7724-CPU-Performance-in-Drive , I can say that having 4 covets is 10 fps faster now (from 75 to 85), but having 5 covets has remained the same (36 fps). In Dry Rock Island fps are exactly the same except in some areas where I can even lose 10-15 fps compared to the older version In grid pure I'd say I've lost 5-6 fps, but it looks much better and it's still perfectly smooth +60 fps so no problem here.
Yes! I gained almost exactly 25%, putting me from ~18FPS to around ~22FPS. 1 Covet is 23FPS, that from 20FPS 1 D15 is 21FPS, that from 19FPS 1 Pigeon is 29FPS yay
disable the UI to make a fair comparison. Shift + U. In my map the UI eats 10 fps... I'd say that's a lot...
Small island was getting 60+ everywhere. Now getting 25-45, feels stuttery. I cant really enjoy the niceness like that. Industrial was getting 60+ now bogs down in certain places to 28fps or worse in places. Jumping from 100 down to 30 in the space of a few meters causes a lag spike and puts you off your flow. see quick video. Dry rock island still getting about the same 55-80fps A few maps I'm working on have improved by as much as 15 fps though, so I'm pleased with that. I hope they figure out whats causing it as I cant really play with the constant stuttering.
Hutch said SI was the map that received most changes. There should be some FPS drop due the amount of details added to it. I think it applies for other official maps too.
Not that much though, that's strange. On my PC I had a ~4% FPS drop from last version to current despite the additions.
I think I saw his post and please correct me if I'm wrong, but he said a 4% reduction in performance? I'm noticing almost a 50% reduction in frame rate. When I said I got 60+ it was anywhere between 60 and 100 fps before the update. Its not really a big deal as I don't really play that map very often, but It is definitely bordering unplayable now. So the chances of my using it now are almost zero. I have no issues with Dry rock island which is strange because I have seen a few people saying its performing worse for them and have seen a few people saying that they had no problems with small Island. Computers are fickle things lol Edit: Hutch beat me to it lol
I notice a drastic improvement when I play on my laptop alone, regardless of map (DRI still a bit laggy, but def smoother camera motion) Pure grid gived me 40+ whereas it would be close to 20fps before the update. On testmap, it has improved about 8-10fps, mind you im on APU accel graphics. The one annoying thing is the background of the menu that just stutters beyond belief, is there a way to disable it? Its beautiful, and very interesting, but id rather have stills that switch rather than the animated/3d background. Driving all the cars also has improved quite a bit, and a bonus is when I use the pigeon, Im getting easily 40-50fps. I never even came close to that before, again, on a craptop. (I got this laptop for work, and spent 150 on it and it was kicking around in a co-workers trunk for almost a year). One thing I did was updated my graphics drivers, they were over 2 years old. That just made my whole computer experience 2x better too. Hope this helps, laptop users have no fear!! (unless it is a REAL piece of junk lol) windows 7 home premium 64 bit 4 gigs ram (running out of space) HDD AMD a6 3420M APU - 1.5 ghz...says something about 3.4 ghz, I don't really know much about the ghz ratings and such, if it says it is 1.5 ghz, when I benchmark my computer on "can you run it" it says its running at 3.4 ghz...does that mean its a duo or quad core or something?
I'm suffering some weird FPS drops too. I used to have an average of 60 fps, but now it drops a lot depending on where I'm looking: Difference of 22 fps...
CPU performance is greatly improved, don't see that much of a fps difference when pausing the physics. Also when using more cars you can really tell the difference. On maps that have no vegetation or very little the fps is much better. On maps with a lot of vegetation (Dry Rock Island) the fps is worse/the same.
I have fps drop to , in the grid at the spawn point with the D15 . my framerate change of 120 fps to 25 without reason when the cars it's stop, without the update the game was run really great , here it's pretty unplayable. i play with macbook i7 2.4 GT650m
I legitimately have no idea. This is the only program on my PC in which I have issues with. I can run games like TF2 with everything on ultra, and AA Filter @ 8x, with 300 FPS (Capped) BeamNG, I am running with everything at high, and AA Filtering @ 4x. I am getting 15-30 FPS. Average, I get 17-23 FPS. I know my old PC, could run the game at 60 FPS.
Did you check that the program is executing through your GPU and not through CPU graphics? Sorry if I am being obvious but it has happened to me (had it configured for the previous version but now the icon links to a new .exe so I had to configure it again so it runs nice with Windows 7, I7, Nvidia GT540M 2Gb.)
I've seen an increase of about 5 fps on grid map not been on any other maps because well... my pc is bad and the physics seem to move alot smoother with the update
Good to hear the GT520M performs better than before, I am the only person I know with a GT520 (the desktop variant). I could never run BeamNG at my displays native 1680x1050 and get a satisfactory framerate. Grid map was like 50-ish fps before the update (at 1440x900). I've been on vacation all week (conveniently, I left the day before the update) so we'll see how the update performs when I get back home tomorrow.
