So i tried to open the dds file for the van and I got this: I checked my cache and although there was a van folder it wasn't much better: Can someone help?
The official vehicle's files aren't stored int he documents folder. They're found in your BeamNG.drive\content\vehicles, which is under your steamapps folder (should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\vehicle)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\vehicles\van.zip\vehicles\van This should work, just realised I put the link to the vehicles folder not the van folder which is inside (It's in a .zip so you might have a bit of trouble)
As in, there is no van.zip --- Post updated --- I found the van zip file and the dds file inside in File Explorer, should I extract to find it on gimp?
What program are you using? It might not be able to open zips, maybe try on another zip file. Also, can you use the van ingame? If you can load and drive it, it should be there...
I'm not familiar with gimp, but it should work if you copy and paste that file into another folder and open it from there.
Ok, no program I have or can get will search for non image files. Should I extract the van.zip folder so I can get it? --- Post updated --- Oh just ready your new post, it came through as I finished that one. --- Post updated --- Done and done a simple livery, but can't load the livery through ctrl+w. How should I do it? The tutorial says to save in the van folder but there is no van folder Unless I'm meant to unzip it... --- Post updated --- --- Post updated --- https://www.beamng.com/threads/tutorial-how-to-skin-your-own-vehicle.2796/ if youre wondering I'm using this guideline
That's a really old tutorial, I recommend you use this method of installing the mod. Create this folder structure in your BeamNG.drive\mods folder (mine is slightly different as mine is in a different location) and put your skin stuff in there. You can edit it from there without repacking it as a zip
Yeah, put your skin in that folder structure and it should appear ingame unless your jbeam or materials are broken
Just paste the skin file you made (and the jbeam/materials.cs files too, so it works ingame) into the folders I showed you (create them, if they don't exist already)
is there a youtube video for that? I have no clue how to and what I should create. I gg, but will be back on at 12:00 AEST
If you are making a skin, just follow the existing guides: https://wiki.beamng.com/Simple_skin_tutorial https://wiki.beamng.com/Introduction_to_skin_system Also note that paint.net won't show you files that are inside ZIP, that's why you cannot see them in the 'Open' dialog. First extract them manually somewhere (your desktop for example)
In the same folder is fine, isn't it? And then how do I put the files back into my zip? --- Post updated --- is this normal? --- Post updated --- THAT ISNT NORMAL ARRR
This is not how you skin. You are not supposed to put anything into the ZIP. Please follow the well written tutorials I linked, as they explain everything step by step.
