currently at my school, but its annoying how I live just down the road from my school, and they can't give me the good internet like my school has, I have roughly the same download but the uplaod KILLS mine, my upload is around 0.4 0.9 (but for some reason today the schools internet is being really slow, and I know it says: SYDNEY (< 50 mi) that is a bloody lie, try 600km (imported from here)
Update on my internet speed.... (Direct line to the router in the spare room) My Previous Attempt for you all (Indirect line over 100 year old or older power lines) and thats a change of rooms while my own room is being redone
I tried using the speed test to determine how bad my internet is. Tellingly, I'm on take 3, and the internet still can't get through the download speed test, so I can't get any results (but it never exceeds about 0.3 on the bits per second scale). Is there a word for a connection's tendency to 'forget' that it's loading something? Because it happens to me all the time, and that's what is happening in the above. Edit: a newer, closer server just opened up, now I've got a result: And this server was still a vast improvement over the last.
Central-southwestern Missouri. The internet is a high-tier package that comes by way of the phone service, but some part of the line seems to be damaged. Households less than a quarter of a mile away are getting ~95% of the service's promised speed. We're getting less than 1%. The company is currently upgrading to fiber optic cable, and they say that will vastly improve the speeds by the fifth. We'll see.
Speedtest ain't working on my Aurora/Firefox, so I used Speedof.me, 8.03Mbit/s down, 900kb/s up. Scap:
Remember, Speedtest measures in MB/s while Speedof measures in Mb/s. 60Mb/s ~= 6.5MB/s. (imported from here) I'm still mourning my 64/5 vs this 1.8/0.8. ((( Oh, and see that ping? Makes gaming impossible during peak hours. Gets up to freaking 2000ms sometimes. Charter is seriously the best ISP anywhere. They were actually competent and had sub 30ms pings. /rage
So slow that it took 25 minutes to sudo apt-get update on a fresh crunchbang install and I am currently about half an hour into installing printer support
I can get get the cheapest internet with Charter and it would be the same and cheaper as the highest you can get with Time Warner. You could get 140 Mb/s with one of the Charter plans.
